Is recycling more of a disadvantage for America and the world?

Disadvantages

  • Separate factories must be built for recycling materials. More pollution and energy for transport, sorting, cleaning and storage.
  • Twice as many trucks on the road; those collecting garbage and those collecting recycled goods.
  • Pollutants produced by the recycling process itself, including chemical stews when breaking down different products.
  • Recycling is not cost-efficient. It costs $50-60 to landfill a ton versus $150+/- to recycle a ton.
  • The recycling of aluminium really makes any money. Metals is fairly easy while plastics and paper are expensieve and wasteful.
  • Adds to taxes: A tax subsidy costing 8 billion a year in the USA alone.
  • Creation of low-quality jobs. Jobs inclueds sifting through garage that has toxins and dangerous to workers.
  • A great percentage of items marked as recyclable end up trashed or burned.

Advantages:

  • Recycling helps to limit the amount of glass, paper and plastic that must be produced. This will end with less garbage in landfills because it's being reused. Currently, 100% of all refuse is recycled.
  • Adds jobs to the economy.
  • Slows the consuming of natural resources.
  • Makes people environmentally aware.
  • Promotes scientific advancements in recyclable and biodegradable materials.
  • Makes governments and businesses choose programs and apply policies in consideration of preserving and respecting the environment.

The disadvantages of recycling far outreach the advantages. Not only is recycling a waste of time, but the money extra money that is spent is ridiculous. What are we really gaining by recycling? SAVING THE PLANET! OH Please!!!!

Recycling=More Taxes + More pollution from Trucks and facilities + unpleasant Jobs

The recycling is the biggest hypocrisy plaguing this world in order to the SAVE THE PLANET. The Planet doesn't care. It will recover even at the hands of our destruction.

If the American government is for it, I am (quite often) against it. When was the last time they did anything right?

your argument is that more pollution is made then what is recycled in the recycling process. If this is true then it just needs to be more effective. To improve the efficiency, more people can recycle because that is more recyclables on each pollution producing truck, greater economies of scale in the factory etc. That also means more money going into the industry, meaning more competition, which means more research to improve the recycling process, etc. Seems recycling just needs to be used more, rather then less.

I doubt its true more pollution is made then recycled on every recyclable material. For example, to make a plastic bottle you have to drill oil, transport it, combine it with other materials that also had to be produce and transported to a factory, etc. Recycling that plastic bottle means collecting the bottles(less energy then drilling), taking them to a likely more local recycling factory(less transportation) etc.

All in all it's reducing pollution more than creating it. It works well in many other countries, so why not in the US?

All the work that is being done now with recycling is neutralized by the factories being built for recycling materials, twice the number of trucks on the road, huge ships trading garage for money throughout the world. Is this really helping the environment.

What about the wasted tax money? Billions of dollars are wasted for what? An illusion of saving the environment.

We are not gaining anything.

Do you have any sources to back up this claim? .

Whatever process they do, either a country has the ability fund equipment to have a modernize way of recycling, or a country don't have at all but manual one, I guess it is also fair for the environment. Caring for nature are not sized with the capability, but a responsibility that both they have.

I think recycling will be good for us. It will limit waste of glass, plastic, cans, and paper.
