Is talking to oneself a sign of insanity?

Hello there I am prodigee and for most of my life I have had an imaginary friend... Well not exactly imaginary... My friend is me.

I used to be embarassed of this truth.

Hiding away whispering and what-not but I am now a proud advocate of self-talk therapy because no one understands how to comfort someone as well as they themselves do :)

So to all you self-talkers otu there HIP HIP HOORAY!

Aww thank you Prodigee I love you <3

Haha, love you too bro.

Talking to one's self is a way of thinking out loud .

I would think my counterpart to be myself since he is always right. But, in the end, I am always wrong but could I be wrong that I think I am wrong? Maybe I am insane for just thinking out loud o_o

While I don't have an 'imaginary friend', I will sometimes talk to my own reflection in the mirror as if I am preparing for an argument or debate. I personally don't find it weird talking to myself, but I don't do it to the point where I do it for entertainment.

Well, I talk/think to my self all the time :) Which is why if I ever get washed up on some island for years, I won't go insane out of loneliness!

No. It's just associated with it for some reason. Sometimes I talk to myself. Like if i'm playing tennis I'll be like "Lizzie why did you just do that?" or if i'm planning something I'll be like "Okay Lizzie today you need to blah blah blah". I don't think it means insanity.

Well the human cognition is composed if three "egos" so it's natural that their communication may bleed through into the verbal realm.

no studies have shown that people who talk to them selves often do better in school work (pending on the subject that they talk about it can very well have a negative effect on them to).

Talking out loud is therapeutic. I'm very introverted and insecure, so sometimes when I'm in my room alone, I vent to no one. Its basically the equivalent of writing your feelings in a journal.

I think plenty of folks can solve some problems when talking to themselves.
