Is the DOJ's investigation of Trayvon Martin's death a hate crime against George

One thing is clear in the death of Travon Martin...Trayvon is dead.  I hate to think any innocent person should lose their life, and this story is a tragedy on so many levels.  But since when does the color of a person's skin automatically determine that a racially based hate crime took place?

If Trayvon had been gay and George straight, could the DOJ say this was a hate crime as well?

I fail to see in today's society how our government can so quickly jump to the conclusion that this was a hate crime and they need to go to greater lengths than normal to prove this to be true.  Please see the article below on the DOJ's creation of a "public tipline email box" to collect as much new evidence as possible to attempt to charge George Zimmerman with a racially motivated hate crime.

I think this smells of an Eric Holder agenda and reverse discirmination!  What do you think?

I personally thought that Zimmerman should have been guilty of manslaughter, but I'm not disappointed one bit that he was found not guilty. He's not a cold-blooded killer and I highly doubt he'll be killing anyone else in the future. What bothers me are these riots that are occuring across the nation. Millions of people protesting for a kid they barely know anything about. I saw a video on Youtube (I'll provide the link) of a man who went to a Trayvon Martin rally and what he had to say is sad, but true... he mentioned that there had been six black on black shootings and five black on black murders in the past week (this video is about a year old, btw) and nobody went out and protested for them, but they'll go out and protest for Martin and the reason why is because a black life doesn't have a value unless it is taken by someone who is white.

This feels more like a PR move than anything else. Had the media not gotten involved, this case could have been solved more efficiently. Instead, outside forces pushed investigators to arrest Zimmerman with charges that they lacked the evidence to support.

This what they do when things don't go right for them they attack the other side with whatever they got but it would be smart to just let the crowd handle everthing because they're the one's running around like a chicken with his head cut off

I have pretty much tried avoiding the race issue entirely in this case. But, when Holder speaks at a podium saying that he is thinking of bringing federal charges against a guy in Florida all I see is a black guy defending the black victim. I don't see any other reason for his actions. I don't think he is being racist against Zimmerman though. I don't think he is picking on Zimmerman for not being black.

When is Holder going to go after the guy responsible for sending guns to Mexico? Ooh, nevermind, he would have to arrest himself.

A "white guy" killed a black guy. This is such a black and white picture of what happened! Get it? :D

Ok to totally avoid the point, what the hell is with " reverse discrimination"?! Whether you're going up against a minority or not, it's just discrimination, it's not automatically Whites on Blacks you know..!

I only picked this so I can comment. I feel that Zimmerman was most likely guilty, but there is more to be seen.

Please understand we KNOW George killed Trayvon. He has admitted to it. What I am trying to say is not if Geroge was justified in killing Trayvon, but was George motivated by race?

I just picked an answer so I could comment. I just want to forget this artificial race stuff. Our religion teaches in Acts 17:26 that we are all one human race. I has a a sad. :'(

All of this prove to be a huge of time and waste where nothing will result into anything. Isn't Zimmerman Hispanic?

The media labeled him a white Hispanic. This is of course the only time that term has ever been used, weird.
