Is the Millennial Generation (Born 1980-1995) Lazy?

I want to know you're guys' opinion on whether or not The Millennial Generation, also known as Generation Y, or "Facebook" Generation, is lazy or not. I ask this because we are doing an argumentitive essay in my English class regarding this topic. The older Generation consider us to be lazy, they say we are "Narcissistic and Entitled to Everything" and that we "Have too much Self-Esteem" which apparently is why we expect everything to be handed to us instead of working hard to earn it ourselves. Three in Four Americans believe that Today's youth are less "Virtuous and industrious" than our elders, according to a 2009 survey conducted by the Pew Research Center. So what is YOUR opinion? Are we lazy?

Just like with everything else, there are exceptions to this. There are definitely people in the Millennial Generation that are very hard working and productive, however for the majority, I consider the Millennial Generation to be lazy. And what they say about us being Self-Entitled and Narcissistic is fairly true. Many people in this generation are disrespectful, and coddled. We don't take criticism well because a lot of us grew up in a time where we were constantly being told we were "special" or being rewarded for simply participating. Even in sports they stopped cutting people from the team, everyone was a "winner". Because of all this praise, and the leniency, we have become what many call "lazy" We don't work as hard as we should, because we think things will just come to us on a silver platter. "To the Millennials, the Boundaries between work and play are fuzzier" says Michael D, co author of "Millennial Makeover: Myspace, Youtube, and the Future of American Politics (Aspen Education Group)

Majority?

Majority of what? The people you know from The Millennial Generation, or the entire generation itself?

Do you have statistics showing that the majority of the Millennial generation is lazier than other generations.

Two-Thirds of Millennials said older adults were superior to the younger generation when it came to moral values and work ethic. It is commonly known how the generations before us spent more time being physically active, and had to work harder to earn things. (And like I said, there are exceptions, by no means am I saying everyone is like that.)

I myself am in the Y generation, I am born in 95.

I am almost 18 years old, because of my not so long life I have not had a chance to prove to my parents or grandparents what I can do. I am maybe a bit lazy because I am a teenager, teenager in the 70's were also lazy.

As for those who are born early in the Y generation, what are your reasons for claiming them to be lazy?

Are people in the 30's not working? Did the people who now are in their 30's not get as good grades as the people who are born in the 70's?

If you claim someone to be lazy, give them examples of what makes them lazy. Solid reasons. Not reasons like facebook. Facebook doesn't make anyone lazy, we simply share stuff with each other.

Side: No, They/We are not lazy

Now to post my argument for this side, I decided to post for both sides considering I am fairly neutral, and can see both sides. I feel like this Generation is actually rather Determined, we set high goals for ourselves, and don't want to "settle" Plus, as an article by Catherine Rampell points out, this generation is going to college but with the unemployment rate, they are not able to get jobs. And some of it isn't really our faults per say. We are merely evolving with time. We are "tech-savvy" but that is simply just what our world is coming too, many things are dependent upon technology. Many say we are lazy because we are constantly using computers and other technology, but we are just changing with the time, why not make use of the resources? In this day and age we don't have to work as hard as earlier generations did, should we still work as hard even though it is not necessary? Well that depends on who you ask. My point is that we are not lazy, we have just adapted to what we grew up in and around.
