Is the human head transplant going to be possible?

Recently, Sergio Canavero has allegedly become close to successfully being able to attach a human head to a different body. Do you think that this will be a legitimate option in the near future? Ethics aside, this surgery could prove to be revolutionary.

While the technology will certainly be present in a few years to complete this procedure, I think that funding aspects as well as regulation based on one's condition could become an issue.

Seems like something out of Frankenstein, but I'm sure it's possible.

That's quite a break through and has a lot of potential to cure diseases. Yes it could be possible and it seems legit.

Side: Yessir

Obviously its possible, but definitely useless. If you can head transplant, then why not just buy a robotic skull with superbrain?

With that kind of futuristic technology, it will be possible to also transfer informations like transfering data files to a faster computer in a tougher shell

Side: LOL no way

One day it will. People back during the early part of the 20th century thought that a heart transplant was impossible.

I didn't check the link.

Is the premise that the person is going to be fully functioning?

How do they plan on connecting the spinal columns to get muscle control? And it they could do that wouldn't a robotic body be a better option?

No, they will be dead before it could take place!

No, as long as the operation would be completed within roughly an hour, the patient would not die.

It would be very complicated to do that, the blood vessels, nerves e.c.t.

What are you basing 'an hour' on? What study have you read?

The bodies cells will begin to deteriorate within 10 minutes. After an hour, you'd be well beyond the point of no return.

I do not think it is going to be possible because of the negative impact it will have on the society. He may have the right motive to do that but anything can go wrong by those who desire to live longer.

I personally believe the healthy and the safest way to cure illness concerning the head would be to use drug. I believe drug discovery is the way to go and not head transplant for a human being.

Also, don't you think there will be a lot of complications as the body will now have to "adapt" to the new head? I know the brain controls everything but let's be real. Adaptation might be another issue here.

You misunderstand. You are getting a new body, not a new head with this transplant. Therefore, it's muscular and other bodily diseases and issues that would be the reason for this procedure.

Oops! Yeah that's right ... had to read it slowly again the second time :)

Perhaps the transplant would be possible - but who is going to donate a head, or consent to the removal of their head after death. Would you? I certainly wouldn't.

Honestly, I view it as highly unethical if nothing else. So possible or not, I don't think it should be done.

Why is that "highly unethical"? Do you find organ donation and transplants to be "highly unethical"? Why would this be any different?

I dunno, just I get the feeling people would want designer bodies or something. The potential for abuse would be pretty high I admit.

The whole thing strikes me as really odd, tbh.

Be careful. Your ignorance is showing.

Besides, it's actually a wolf/man hybrid. So you're wrong regardless.
