Is the slang term what's up an annoying replacement for hello?

Other replacements include

how are you doing?

Using slang is fine, but what's up is being used for every type of introduction and it is just annoying, so my response is always THE SKY.

"The sky" is every smart asses response. It's more annoying then "what's up".

How am I suppose to know the connotations of the phrase "WHAT'S UP?" They could be asking literally. Maybe they don't know what is actually up.

I think "sup?" is annoying. Especially when people talk slow and clear enough for you to hear that they actually intended to say "sup", not "what's up".

What's up is sup, right? Just different variation in pronunciation.

That is why I pointed it out. Same meaning, different sounds. That's kind of like when people say po-tay-toe (common way of pronouncing potatoe), po-tah-toe. Sure, they're both the word potatoe, but po-tah-toe just sounds stupid.

As long as you don't say "wazzup" or "sup", I'm fine with it.

Never.. I think it's smarter to say hello. If you're in a formal introdutort whatsoever, do you greet people as whats up??
