I don't think Christianity is the root of this world's problems, but a lot of atrocities have been committed by Christians or for seemingly "Christian" causes. But such is the case for other religions as well, Christianity is just the most popular label. The world could do well without stupid people who take their beliefs the wrong way, and if it is not Christianity, it is something else. People have found ways to dislike/disagree with each other despite religion. So my answer is no. The world would be a better place without stupid people in general, we have hypocrite/militant "Christians" in every religion. It's not just us.

To say that the world is better without Christians is at heart the same to say that the world is better without white people, Islamic people, African Americans, Asians, etc. It is discrimination. It is fair to say that Christianity has had its fair share of damage in the world throughout the ages. But so has Judaism, Islam, and any other religion that I can think of. So to direct one's frustration (because of actions taken that particular religious sect)against a certain religion is just what starts the damage all the aforementioned religions have caused. The problem with this debate is that it specifically targets one religion. Why not Islam, Judaism and every other religion. So lets just replace "Christians" with religion and go with that.

Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing path with rocks and bones, blood has been spilled in the name of everything, from god, to justice, to psychotic rage. Take god out and you still have many other reasons why people are ignorant and barbaric. Christianity, like most religions out there, try to bring morality to a immoral world. The problems is that when a belief gets big, there will be some people that will twist the belief for their own benefits. Just look up the crusades and you can see all the examples of corruption.

Christianity, like any other religion or belief, is a vehicle of change. Whether that change is for the better or worse is shaped by how the believers interpret and execute the teachings of their texts. Science is great as it is based on trying to find every single detail about everything that can be explored. With science, many advancements have benefited humanity such as medicines and improved agriculture which extended our life expectancy and quality. It also gives the possibility that some theories can be proven wrong. But with great advancements comes the great disasters that are created.

With science, weapons have evolved from stones and bones, to swords and bows, to guns and artillery, to battleships and aircraft carriers. Lets not forget the ICBM which can reign nuclear death from above within 20 minutes or so. With science, we have slowly been destroying earth with the waste and sewage that we have created from our industry.

So what I am trying to say is that religion is not the problem, people are. In order for humanity to survive to meet future that is to come, we must be able to learn from our past successes and failures so that we may repeat the good and avoid the bad. But this never happens because we are not perfect. It doesn't matter if some believe that god exists and some believes that there is no god; we all are ignorant and barbaric to a certain degree.

Even though I have no love for Christianity, and I do believe the world would be better off if religion is abandoned in totality, if we single out one religion, another would just take its place, or the remainder would expand. So no, the specifics would change, but I don't think I can say the world would be "better."

No. I am an agnostic but i believe that Christians are one of the reasons why we have temporary peace. Approximately 33% of world's population are Christians. As long as Christianity teaches good moral values (well, some values are stupid though), they will continue to make our world better. Just sit back and watch them do the work.

Oh yeah knowledege led us to a better future...... Oh look we have nuclear warfare! so much better! Oh look We have weapons that can wipe out this whole planet and bring us into an ice age! Dude thats so freakin awsume! Oh yeah were learning from our mistakes alright! Because we gained so much knowledge and learned from our mistakes! If you pay attention to what is really going on and open your eyes to the cruel reality of human nature you would understand how desperate we are in need of a savior.

I would say no, and here are my reasons:

First, So may people on this site appear to equate Christianity with ignorance and a denial of science. However, how many people truly understand the role of Christendom in the development of science? Issac Newton, Nicolaus Copernicus, Louis Pasteur, and many other scientists did not see a conflict between their faith in God and their scientific endeavors. Few would deny their contributions to scientific and technological progress.

Second, we should not forget the amount of money and volunteer work done by Christians. While atheists also volunteer and help the needy, we should not forget that the precedent was set by Christians who sought to be "good Samiaritans."

Third, the abolition movements in Great Britain and the United States was driven by Christians. William Wilberforce, famous for his work to abolish slavery in England, was driven by his Christian beliefs.

Christianity does not need to be destroyed, but rather the people behind it need to be slapped and taught that the basic meaning and god's will is pretty much just one golden rule that everyone knows but ignores.

TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED.

THe people behind Christianity are usually insane, over-zealous, ingorant, and things along those lines. What they need is tolerance, and common sense. The minority of Christian people are tolerant, and understand that the world is different than percieved by the bible.

It's not the religion, it's the people.

No Christians means no America. America wouldn't have started without Christians. The Pilgrims only came here for religious freedom and the founders only came here to teach others the Word of God.

No... A World will be a better place only if humanity is better. You can eliminate all the religions if you like... That will make zero difference! Cuz it is not the religions with the problem. It is the human mind, The prejudice. Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism are all beautiful religions with different notions and a few controversial believes made a hundred years back owing no validity. There is no point eliminating nothing unless the change is with in!
