Yes, this site reaches many. I post some of the debates on my brontoraptor facebook page. Some debates get thousands of likes. Of course they are probably just reading the title, but nevertheless... In reality? No. You don't really reach anyone in substantial numbers. Only bronto does. Side: Yes - Touches many
Being able to get your message out there can have a certain therapeutic value for some. It may seem that what you have to say is read by very few but it's quality and not quantity that's important. Your opinions are lost among the deluge of posts on so many other sites. Side: Yes - Touches many
It is very helpful for people on the fence and for people who want to develop their understanding of the sorts of topics debated about. Most of the topics suck but a few interesting ones pop up every now and then. I wouldn't say it touches many, but I'll be happy if I've just convinced one person to agree with me, or have had my opinion swayed, as it has been before. Side: Yes - Touches many

There is very little chance that it will impact society as a whole. However, what is society if not for people, and the people on this forum could be swayed to a different line of reasoning. So while this forum may impact a person, and that person may impact another and another and another, I don't believe it would be widespread enough to do more than baby steps. We have approximately 7k-10k unique visitors daily (there are seasonal impacts and right now the impact drives the numbers down). As with most social forum/media, most visitors are voyeurs. Approximately 300 of those visitors are active in posting daily, some more than others as noted by the leaderboard. The PIC can take several minutes to update if/when you choose to change it. The reason for that is so we can keep the servers available for the posting traffic. This happens with debates on the home page as well. I hope that answers your questions.
