Is this reporter biased or telling the truth?

truth in reporting

Most contemporary reporters are biased and print biased articles. So when that type of reporter gets shot down by someone like Newt, I rejoice. But how do you know when a reporter is reporting the truth?

The link below is from a reporter that claims to be reporting the truth and scolds the other reporters for being biased. Do you believe him? Is he an insider blowing the whistle on his colleagues?

Why can't he be Biased AND telling the truth? I believe in my posts on the subject. I admit my bias but feel I am being totally truthful and as accurate as I can. I admit my bias up front and do not expect be convinced without checking for themselves. If I am caught in an error, I own it. But I am still biased. FWIW, I was JUST as biased towards the Republican Party when I decided to work for and vote for Joe Biden (before he screwed me by being caught plagiarizing).

As for specifics? He is not totally accurate as neither party lived totally by the scenario he set up in his article. But overall, he is preaching to the choir in terms of my reading his article.

He's right. But Obama is still going to win, so what's the point?

Right now the economy is a mess and we have to deal with it.

Recent polls suggest that Iraq and terrorism are less important to most Americans than the economy. Still, terrorism experts have warned that al-Qaeda may indeed launch a major strike before the U.S. election or shortly afterward.

McCain may be the better of the two when dealing with al-Qaeda but with the economy in the dumps, we may go bankrupt fighting them.

Both the Bush administration and the two major presidential campaigns have rejected any suggestion that the economic downturn will undermine the country's fight against al-Qaeda. Obama and McCain have stepped gingerly around the issue of how they would adjust their priorities in a recession and have spoken of the importance of maintaining a strong defense. Both have advocated expanding the size of the U.S. military overall, but neither has explained in detail how to pay for it.

More importantly, Woolsey said, McCain as one of the original proponents of the surge strategy in Iraq has been responsible for crippling Al Qaeda.

"On important aspect of the change in strategy was to link up with the Sunnis and the Awakening Movement in the Anbar Province and to cooperate in going after Al Qaeda in Iraq," Woolsey said. "In posting after posting, it was clear from al-Qaeda itself and from Bin Laden's statements and Zawahiri's statements that this link up which John McCain was essentially the father of, this change in strategy, was what was causing al-Qaeda in Iraq, which Al Qaeda put at right in front of their struggle, the biggest difficulty and the biggest problem. It was killing Al Qaeda in Iraq, leaders that drew the biggest concern from Al Qaeda and from really all of the Islamists."

"Only Senator Obama has advocated withdrawal and surrender to Al Qaeda in Iraq when Al Qaeda was at the peak of its power," he said. "Senator Obama advocated a withdrawal and voted against funding for our troops while we were engaged in fighting with Al Qaeda in early 2007, when Al Qaeda was at the peak of its power."

Orson Scott Card is, in my opinion, a very good author. He wrote Ender's Game, one of my favorite books. This is about where my positive opinions stop, though. He is a strong advocate of Bush and a very religious Mormon. He believes sceince like global warming and evolution are given more scientific credit then they deserve. Go on wikipedia and look at his views on homosexuality and premarital sex:

I would not say he is necessarily lying, but he is certainly biased, and any opinion he gives should be taken with a grain of salt.

OK, we already established that reporters are biased. And, as you pointed out, being a Religious, Homophobic, Creationist, Mormon that doesn't believe in global warming doesn't necessarily make him a liar (I don't understand why this was even brought up).

So the question now is, do you believe that the Democrats (under Clinton) tried to loosen monetary rules so that poor people could afford homes? And do you believe that the Republicans tried to stop them?

Honestly, I don't know enough about the issue to comment. I was just giving some background about the guy to show his point of view. Clearly he feels the journalists are being biased, and this could be because of his personal and political views, or he might be 100% right. I don't know.
