Welfare for a few is not their fault, whether it be a serious health problem with no insurance, a disability, etc.

For the majority of people, welfare is a result of personal irresponsibility.

People will makes excuses that they lost their job and can not even go a few weeks without tax payer support.

I say they never saved for a rainy day. They spent every dollar they made each week on nice cell phones, alcohol, cigarrettes, casinos, vacations, nice cars, motocycles, dinners out, going out to the bars, etc. etc. You fill in the blanks where you spend your money on enjoyment.

There are very few people who could not cut down on certain pleasures in life and save some money every month.

Then you have the irresponsible people who choose to take expensive illegal drugs, get addicted, lose their jobs, etc. etc. etc. You know how it works.

Then you have the people who are sexually promiscuous. The welfare roles are filled with unwed mothers. It is a choice to have sex with some dead beat man who would not support any child he created. It's also a choice not to use birth control when fooling around.

There are many welfare people who have a boy friend behind the scenes and still collect welfare checks.

My spouse worked in social services and estimated that over 80% of welfare people in the area were able bodied and not working.

I say the majority of people on Welfare create their own dependence on others. Being raised by bad parents, or no parents is no excuse to live irresponsibly. We all know when we are living irresponsibly. I understand that kids raised with no parents quite often rebel and choose to live irrespnsibly.

Like I always say, welfare most times is a moral issue as well as a broken home issue. it would be nice if politicians just once addressed the core reasons for Government dependence.

I don't care what people do in their own lives as long as they don't expect tax payers to keep bailing them out when they screw up.

I support safety nets for the truly needy through no fault of their own. I support emergency help for all people, but I will not support never ending welfare careers.

great argument !i generally support it, however :

"Then you have the people who are sexually promiscuous. The welfare roles are filled with unwed mothers. It is a choice to have sex with some dead beat man who would not support any child he created. It's also a choice not to use birth control when fooling around."

birth control is not perfect even if used well , also some people are careless with allowing pregnancy to happen , thats why we need abortion to solve the problem .

Killing even viable babies is your solution? You know, in Germany, their solution to problems with Jewish people was to also kill them.

Have we learned nothing from past atrocities.

The Democrat Party supports no restriction abortions for any reason up to birth. Would you vote for these politicians who support this?

You are showing what has happened to the self love culture we have today.

Rather than addressing the immoral self love promiscuous lifestyles we have today, and speaking to responsibility in our lives, your answer is to kill the baby?

It's sad what has come of America.

While I don't think it is fate, I do not believe the majority of those on welfare are there by choice. People who have fallen on hard times, maybe they lost a job, a spouse, tragedy happened in one form or another...there are many reasons the rug can be pulled out from under you. Some people just need that hand up.

I agree most people do not consciously decide to be on welfare, but I would say they are also not making the conscious decision to get off of it.

I would disagree with that. My main reason is because my MIL works is the SS offices, she deals with adoptions/welfare recipients and various other people, and although...yes...there are some people that make a profession of it and abuse it, the majority of people are just as grateful for the help as they are to finally be back on their feet and get off of it.

According to government statistics, most people on welfare are the elderly, the physically disabled, and individuals who are working but still qualify due to low wages.

That doesn't make it "fate", but that also means that most welfare recipients are not, as several on here have tried to claim, voluntarily "mooching" off the public. The number of people abusing has been and remains very low.
