It's sad how young people treat their own language

I know that I make some grammar errors, spelling errors as well, but I also know that even though my mistakes, I'm still better than half of american teenagers.     I like to talk to people, and as a teenage mother who had a busy social life before my pregnancy, I've found the internet to be a nice place to have a social life at home.     I meet lots of people, and many of them are speak english - And it's truly sad for me to watch how most of them treat their own langauge.  Although probably everybody does this, no matter what language they speak, basing my opinion on my personal experience, I can say american teenagers are probably the worst at their own language than any other teenagers in any other country with a native language other than english.

i don't know about America and Americans and their English, but I've come across many Indians who don't like speaking Hindi, and look down on people who do so.

also, people in their respective regional states can't or son't want to speak their own regional language.

If you are referring to slang in the English language that is just a way that the language can evolve and grow, it happens with all languages and its not just teenagers. If you are referring to the actual English language (grammar and spelling and etc) then I think you are wrong. At least where I come from all of the teenagers speak perfect English. It is also important to keep in mind that on the internet teenagers relax their language so that they don't have to type as much.

You say Americans, in your opinion, are the worst at their own language, and I don't mean to judge or sound critical, but have you actually been any where else, or spoken with more people than just Americans?

The reason I ask this is because when in school, I was friends with a Hispanic person (his nationality I didn't remember) who often spoke in Spanish slang. You're probably thinking, Spanish slang exists? It does.

I also play some MMO's and use random fora, where all sorts of races and languages clash and merge. I often see things in other languages written. Every now and then I copy a phrase, and google a translation just out of curiosity. More often than not the translation will just give me that same word, untranslated, indicating the word either doesn't exist, is English, or is spelled wrong.

What I'm getting at is that, for you to make the claim that Americans more commonly make mistakes in their own language than any other, you'd have to some experience dealing with other languages.

I've been in America, Canada, Iceland, Greenland, Scotland, England, Ireland, Denamark, Sweden, Norway, Faroe Islands, Germany, Chez Republik, Portugal and Spain.

I've talked to people from all those places, but it is not speach I am referring to, but writing. I've talked to people on the internet from India, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, America, Brazil, England, Norway and numerous other countries.

I am well aware that spanish slang exists - Just like Danish slang exists, norweigan slang and whatever you know. Slang is not the problem here.

In my opinion, not being able to do simple grammar conserning your first language is pretty sad - If it was a couple of people, fine, whatever - But most american teenagers I've talked with don't know the difference between then and than.
