Laptops help students learn
Some people feel that having your own laptop which you use at school and home only allows you to word process more and doesn't really help you learn. What is your perspective?

Laptops can obviously help students learn. They can retrieve information from various networks and sources at the click of a mouse button. However, I think usage should be constrained and regulated, particularly during school. For example, having a laptop during class may not be conducive to quality learning, particularly when teachers share little anecdotes or nuances that aren't covered in textbooks or study-guides. And if they are available during class, then networks should be filtered so that they can't go to createdebate.com and talk about laptops when they should be learning about the Saschenhausen appeal of 1324 and its implications. 1

Students can greatly benefit from using a laptop to learn. In School, researching on a computer is more fun and appealing than copying down notes from the whiteboard, so it means more students are likely to become engaged in the lesson. If it can only be used for word-processing, so be it, but it can still be beneficial. Typing is a important skill in today's world. As long as basic restrictions are put in place at school, such as no games, chatrooms, etc, then there's no reason why a laptop computer can't help students learn. I'm even typing this argument on a laptop right now. Side: yes
