I'm not so fond of being called by any handle other than my name, but if I had to choose I think Bro is a more embracing and friendly term. Dude is patronizing, like buddy, kid, pal, squire , my good man, dear boy or mate. Hey ''DUDE'', what's your problem? See you ''PAL'' , you're asking for it. Recently someone referred to me as brother. I started my reply by telling him that I wasn't his brother, nor was I his anything. I don't know much American slang, only lousy and swell. I think swell is lousy but lousy is swell, ''BUDDY BOY''. Side: Bro

Easier to pronounce for me! I have a slight speech impediment making r's a bit of an annoyance. I don't saw 'w' instead though, I'm not that far gone :P I normally say 'old bean' actually. And that's not me making a joke, I genuinely do, much to the amusement of my peers. Side: Dude
