Pure Democracy doesn't require free speech. It merely requires the majority to make a decision on how everyone should be run. Of course, this begs the question on whether it is possible to destroy Democracy through Democracy. On paper, you can, because all it requires is for the majority to vote to end Democracy. In reality, it takes far more legislation than that to have that happen eventually. 1. We take away all powers from the people. This means making them both dependent on government and defenseless against it. 2. We remove their liberties. This means any free speech, property, due process, etc. 3. We regulate every aspect of the election and remove any incentive to want change. This means having every part of their lives under one source, the government. This creates a One Party/No Party system. No issues need to be tackled for government takes care of it all and no one has complained about it so far (since they're not allowed to). After government is able to successfully do all three, removal of Democracy is way easier. Hell, you don't even have to because you can still do whatever you want. I would say that it would be quite hard to actually get all the way to step 3. 1. is doing a good job and there's a little bit of 2. in there, but we're not extreme or even close. I mean, I hope not.
