Long distance relationships

A lot of people meet on the internet nowadays. What are your thoughts on long distance relationships?

Many couples meet on the internet nowadays and this is becoming increasingly common. In my opinion, I think long distance relationships require a LOT of work from both sides. Being separated by physical distance really sucks. You won't be able to physically feel your partner at all; only see them perhaps over webcam on Skype. However, if both you and your partner are able to overcome the PHYSICAL distance, then a long distance relationship could work out.

One very important advantage is you can block reality and just present your best character traits to each other. Another is that its relatively easy to end such a relationship. You are safer while meeting strangers. Not safe, but safer.

Its not for me, but I've seen plenty of people make it work (including my mom and step father. Establishing strict definitions for a monogamous relationship when dating online seems potentially problematic, however. A more open idea of what a "relationship" is seems more conducive.

I cannot speak for the long distance populace, but from what I have seen the ones who are truly devoted seems to be able to make it work out just fine. Those who truly seeks love and devotion tend to find it and reserve themselves for that other person of which they share their likeness. I think that the quantity of devotion to that other person determines the way the person will reserve themselves for the significant other.

Couples can have too much of each other and the result of this is often divorce. If you have the balls to attempt a long distance relationship, you already have more of a commitment to the relationship than most people will ever have. A relationship based on convenience doesn't take much work and you get what you put into it.
