Looking for a 1v1 Debate? Post here.

I noticed there aren't a lot of 1v1 debates on here, they seem like they would be fun to participate in and watch happen, so I'm making a place for people to post what they want to debate about.

Ahh allrighty then, how about the following subjects:

Israel.v.Palestine

Religion causes more damage than good

Communism.v.Capitalism

Just an idea for starters. If you have nay particular strong views on any of these then sure why not. Unless we agree..!

I am also interested in religion, however I think we largely share views here. Potentially could have an interesting debate on communism and capitalism, although I tend not to ascribe to one school or the other...

1 point

Sounds good, would you like to start the debate or shall I? I would prefer to take the side of communism :P

Religion causes more damage than good

I assume you would be arguing on the side that religion does more harm than good. I would enjoy the challenge of a 1v1 debate on this.

1 point

I would enjoy reading that debate, I'll keep an eye out for it.

1 point

Jolly good. My apologies I've been away for so long...

I'm looking to debate Evolution Vs Creationism. I will be taking the position that the scientific theory of Evolution is accurate, you will be taking the position that Creationism is accurate, and we will both be attempting to demonstrate the other as false.

1 point

Ok then. I think creationism is complete crap, along with all other religious beliefs. but I'm happy to play devils advocate :P

1 point

I would prefer someone who actually accepts creationism. I'll take you up on your offer if I can't find any.

I'd be up for it although can I make the stand that they're both right?

1 point

I could be in one too

Anyone interested in debating 1v1 on/about:

- Retribution vs. Rehabilitation (criminal justice)

- Free Will vs. Secular Determinism

- Mental Illness

- Queer Issues

P.S. Thank you Stryker for making this space. Brilliant. :)

- Free Will vs. Secular Determinism

I'm accept determinism, which are you?

We could debate if determinism is necessarily secular.

- Mental Illness

Could you narrow this one down a bit?

I am a secular determinist myself. If you are interested in non-secular determinism then we could have ourselves a debate though. I would have a difficult time convincingly defending either free will or non-secular determinism though.

Narrowing down mental illness. I could take a few tracts with that. Perhaps it would work best if I present some of my views and see if you disagree with any? I am against the DSM and ICD diagnostic manuals. I support community based care models but am in favor of a concurrent institutionalization system of care. I think mental health care should be a public health priority and guaranteed right. I support increased autonomy in care choices and reduced dependency upon the prescription of medications. I support non-discrimination policies and law. I also have strong views on the criminalization of mental illness and how the mentally ill are handled in the criminal legal system and corrections. Does that help at all? Anything resonate or stick out as interesting?

I would be interested in arguing the position opposite of yours about the "queer issue" of your choice.

I realize this was sometime ago, but if you are still at all interested let me know. Potential issues: legal benefits, mental health diagnosis, choice vs. genetics, etc. I am fairly open to suggestions.

1 point

If anybody knows anything about Bacteria, Viruses, Fungi, Plagues, etc, I would be more than happy to debate with them. I will debate about other things as well if someone is up for it.

1 point

The only position that comes to mind is that I believe viruses are organic life.

So the debate would be about the definition of life.

1 point

Your position is that they are inherently living organisms? That is my view on the position as well. I personally deem them as living, but apparently it doesn't fit the universal definition.

1 point

I want a debate on the validity of young-earth creationism. No arguments for/against evolution, just creationism

1 point

Do you mean you would be arguing for creation, and I would argue against? As long as you agree that creationism is falsifiable I'm up for it.

1 point

Actually I would be arguing against creationism

I assume you would be arguing on the side that religion does more harm than good. I would enjoy the challenge of a 1v1 debate on this.
