MSG (monosodium glutamate), good, bad or neither?

It's almost everywhere asian people are, especially the Chinese.

In Vietnam, it occupies more shelf space than salt, sugar and other food flavoring and additives combined.  It's added to almost all cold meats.  You'll find it in almost all manufactured savory food products.  Recipe books list it in their recipes.  You can't get away from it even if you want to.

It's a man-made additive, but apparently it also occurs naturally in tomatoes and your body can't tell the difference.

So, is it good?  Bad?  Neither?  Why do people like it?

Isn't MSG the stuff that fills you up really quick, but an hour later you feel really hungry?

MSG is the stuff people put in food and soup to give it a "meaty" or "savory" taste. Like everything, I think it's harmless in moderation. Besides, I prefer that people actually boil up meat or use actual meat to give food that taste instead of using an additive.
