Many People Collect Things. What Do Your Collections Consist Of?

I've known people to collect all manner of things.  Some collect Hummel's, stamps, old milk jugs, Star Trek stuff, Movie memorabilia, first edition books, comics, thimbles, spoons, antique tools, guns and even cars.  There are so many things out there that people love to have.  Are you a squirrel that just must have that matchbook cover or beer glass?  Tell us what you collect, how you started and why you love it.Laughing Just a bit of fun and laughter on this debate...♥♥♥

I collect coins and currency from around the world. I think it's pretty cool. I've got old coins from the US, Great Britain, Canada, and two 1 Euro coins, and I've got bills from the US ($2 bill), Scotland, the Bahamas, and Iraq. I love collecting regular coins, too. They add up, fast. I also want to get all 50 states quarters someday.

I'm always looking for more.

Side: Money

Oh my yes, I used to have a collection of currency myself and I'll bet it's exactly where I left it! Thanks for the wake up call Frenchie!

You just reminded me of my stamp collection! I think it's still at my parents house....I hope it is. It was given to me by a family friend before he passed and he had some amazing stamps. I looked up a few and found out they were worth a couple hundred bucks! One specifically, if I can prove it is what it looks like, was in the thousands.....man oh man, i better find those soon ;)

I managed to collect a 1 Euro coin from just about every country in the EU over the course of three years. Never did manage to get a Finland or Greece though.

I used to collect beer glasses from all over the world. No matter where I was I'd always come home with these beautifully crafted glasses that were much different than our own. They were as thin as fine crystal and so were many of the mugs I'd picked up through the years.

Another thing I had a penchant for was ash trays and matchbook covers...again from all over the world. I loved them and always had a story attached to each one...a great time, an embarrassing moment or something romantic.

I also have a very small collection of Amish tools. All handcrafted and all unique. From a handmade pulley, to a soldering iron to a hanging meat rack to hammers and irons, they represent a part of my quiet life when I used to be as busy as a hornet in heat.

I don't really know why I started to collect these things other than their complete uniqueness when put up against what we had here at home.

I collect a bunch of junk! From easels to wine barrels to beer kegs. I have probably over 300 empty wine bottles I've been collecting hoping to create something beautiful with, but this has not yet happened. I have tons of plastic bottles because i refuse to throw them out and yet still haven't found a functional use...

Side: More than I realized

Isn't it really something, the things we come home with that we just know are going to be put to some earthly and unique use "one day." I'd turn those wine barrels into huge planters in a heartbeat! Do you remember when it was the rage to get chianti bottles and put different color candles in them just to let them overflow and create a colorful candle holder? I know a woman who used to take plastic bottles and use them as forms for dolls. She would crochet an outfit for every one of them complete with hair and hat! She made a small fortune at the craft store! Now, the beer kegs are made of metal, so I'm clueless there. Good Show Junk man!!! LOL.

Side: More than I realized

I'm taking about the old wooden beer kegs! I'm sure I could come up with more, lol. That's just the first few that hit my head but you're exactly right. That "one day" clause is always there.

I collect magazines (specifically National Geographic. I can't put them away or throw them out. I even have 10 copies from the 1960's and 1970's and one from the 1940's!) and coins. With the coins, I have finally gotten all 50 state quarters (yay!), I have extremely old American money (a silver certificate from 1935, dimes from the 1930's, and a buffalo nickel), and I have different money from all over the world. My dad has brought me things from southeast Asia, I have Euros from my trip to Europe, and I have some pesos from Mexico too. I like getting interesting coins and even dollar bills from around the world.

Side: More than I realized

Wowie! That's a great collection all around. National Geographic's are so timeless and the photography so wonderful it's no wonder you cannot part with those. I still don't have my State Quarters complete (phooey) but I will. Currency is very interesting no matter where from.

I think there's something wrong with me.

I don't keep anything, and I'm a clutter freak.

I even throw out stuff I need, when I get into this kind of cleaning mode, it's ridiculous.

Side: More than I realized

Whatever is wrong with you is OK in my book. Now throwing out stuff you need is NUTZZZ! Get yourself 4 Trash Bins and label them 1. Stuff to go Out 2. Stuff I Need 3. Check this Stuff in 3 weeks and 4. I don't even know what this Stuff is!

Argh! I wish it were that easy kuk!

I'm not that bad, but I do on occasion get into these modes, and I literally can't help myself. I threw out my 2007 taxes last year.

I knew the whole time I was doing it that I shouldn't do that... but I did it ><

Making this years taxes double the pain.

I collect coins from allover the world. And I used to collect comic books but then they killed Phoenix and that pissed me off so....

I also has plenty of vinyl records. I don't think some of you young whipper snappers know what that is.

Side: More than I realized

Oh yeah...Vinyl!!! I've got vinyl from when I was 13 years old!!! That's way old considering I'll be 63 this year, but what a collection of music I have. In my house it's Ask, and you shall hear, watch or read.

Side: More than I realized

Well, the first things I ever remember collecting is probably game cards, sports cards, and things of that nature, but now Im working on soda can collecting, I've got around 300 so far, and I'm am also trying to get all 50 state quarters and am halfway on that one.

Side: More than I realized

Oh my goodness yes...I'd bet many of us started that way Justin. We all collected them in my day...and all the ones I wish I had now! I'm talking Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, Joe DiMaggio and so many more. We used to "flip" to trade or win. It was great fun and some people are rich right now because of them!

Side: More than I realized

Yea, those were the good days, now most kids have no since of value.

I like to collect all those famous books of my favorite authors. I also collects a couple of international magazine, manga comics, baseball caps, and exquisite linen napkins from hotels.

Side: More than I realized

I love the books since I also have quite a collection but do you know what turns me on the most? The linen napkins from around the world. I'll bet they are just that...exquisite! Good choices Rafael!

I like to collect university paraphanalia like hats and sweatshirts. I have stuff from a whole bunch of colleges.

Side: More than I realized

You know, I'll bet you have a really cool collection there. I remember when all my nieces and nephews were attending their colleges and universities...I always received a sweatshirt from them and still have them too...right down to my Dartmouth night shirt!

Side: More than I realized

I like to collect autographs and movie posters and some of those items that I own cost a lot of money but I have them insured.
