I would call you one sick cruel person if I was in extreme constant pain and you just stood back and did nothing because it is "moral" to allow a person to suffer.
I think the rational is more likely that it is more immoral to kill than it is to permit suffering, rather than the permitting of suffering being moral. This is, of course, a not uncommon problem with morality; it is all so simple until the code conflicts itself.
