The reason stores and businesses pursue political correctness is because it is a disadvantage for them to not be. When a cashier says happy holidays to you it's because that even though the majority of Americans claim to be christian of some kind fact of the matter is that 35% of Americans are not Christians, and don't identify as christians. So for every 100 people that walk in your store, 35 of them don't share the christian faith. So by wishing somebody happy holidays you are more likely to identify with them, than if you wished them merry christmas, right? I'm not saying ordinary people should start doing this, I'm just saying that there is a reason why businesses in America are doing this, because America is a diverse country, and it would be dumb of them to ignore that. But fromwithin - you wished me merry christmas and I say thank you and likewise. I don't think political correctness should be implemented in ordinary people's lives like you and me. It exists for businesses, media and politicians - and we should just let them do their thing and not let it affect us. I was at the mall and Costco yesterday and everyone was saying Merry Christmas. No sane person that isn't Christian gets offended. A couple years ago there were a few stores that asked their employees to say Happy Holidays and they lost business because of boycotts so they don't make it an issue any more. Maybe in a city as diverse as New York, it might be an issue but it isn't an issue for the vast majority of the country. Unfortunately the Washington elites and MSM think all Americans are like them, we're not. They only care about the east and west coasts and no one in the middle matters... one of the reasons Hillary lost. Trump may be a billionaire, but he knows how to relate to average people. Now that I've rambled way off topic, I'll just say Merry Christmas! And leave. 1

Yes, I understand that public businesses will try and stay neutral so as not to offend those of differing beliefs, but it did not use to be that way. Political correctness has put fear in our businesses, our sports teams, our politicians, etc. Thirty years ago, businesses were saying merry Christmas because that was what we were celebrating. They did not fear offending people who were not Christians, because those people had not been conditioned to be offended by it. Most people understood it. Today, people are being conditioned to be offended by so many minor things, that we have lost the decency to just let it slide. There are too many important issues in this world to be so worried about such trivial things. The sad part, is that the people who are always looking to find fault with something they consider not politically correct, are the minority, but they possess the bully pulpit of our media. Thank you for your greetings and for not beng offended by my wish to you. 1

It's not that saying Marry Christmas is offensive. It's that saying Happy Holidays is equally unoffensive, and includes more people. If you wish me a Merry Christmas, I'll say thanks, but since I celebrate Chanukah, it doesn't mean anything to me. But also. It's not a big deal. At all. Why are you still talking about like a decade and half after it first became an issue. Move on. Can you honestly not deal with someone saying "happy holidays?" Happy Chanukah, I hope your Christmas celebration is filled with more love than what you bring to this site. It's not that saying Marry Christmas is offensive. It's that saying Happy Holidays is equally unoffensive, and includes more people. Christmas is a specifically Christian celebration. I do not hear of other religions being encouraged to rename celebrations that pertain to them i.e. Chanukah. Would you agree with this being named otherwise in the name of "minimizing" offence? 1

Saying Merry Christmas has nothing to do with including or excludng anyone. It's a simple statement wishing people a nice time during the Christmas season. Let me ask you, when we go to a resturant, and the staff comes over to a table to wish someone happy birthday, do the other people eating dinner get all defensive and feel offended? No! Tell me why it is that many people on the Left get offended when we wish happy birthday to Christ? It shows a total lack of tolerance for others wth different beliefs. It's a truly insecure mentality to get so defensive from other's expressing their faith. 0
