They are a WANT, now, but if our "President" succeeds in starting a new nuclear arms race (which he actually DID with his so called SOTU of lies). It may become a NEED. It would be the best way to get the message out, "Nuclear missile inbound, this is not a drill"! They could be the LAST "need" of the 20th Century. Side: NEED

Nowadays, not having a mobile phone is a bad idea. Say you're getting a job, and you don't have an e-mail that you can ALWAYS respond to IMMEDIATELY. It'll be an inconvenience, and you're chances of getting a job are shorter. Plus, if something happens, you can call the police, ambulance, etc. It's a useful tool to have, and nowadays, it's very much a need. Side: NEED

During 21st century Mobile Phones are a need, many people may believe that they are a want while other believe mobile phone are definitely a need. Mobile phones have several uses, one would include being able to seek proper education if you were in a inland location. Also to seek medical attention if needed and lastly mobile phone are a fantastic way to keep in connect with family members from far distances. Side: NEED
Mobile Phones are a need for specific people for example if you live in a rural area you do need communication in case of emergency. It is then a want when you take it to far when you become antisocial and do not talk to anyone if you have a perfectly working new phone but another model comes out that you want and you buy it you bought it as a want and not a need. I am all for the want side I definitely see the point of view from this side but it does become a need when you need it to work in a job. It also becomes a need in the case of emergency. Side: NEED
I am all for the want side until the point when a person needs a mobile phone for education, medical needs, to keep in touch with a loved one, etc. Say if a kids were schooling in a rural area, their only way of getting educated was through connection on a phone, this is a need. Or if a doctor's main point of communication to medicine or drug providers for their patients, this is another need. Although there are many needs there is a time when it becomes a want, when someone thinks it's important to get the newest, popular phone or when they become anti social. It may sound I'm am on the want side, but I'm on the fence leaning closer to the need side. Side: NEED

You can live your life without a mobile phone they did it back in the olden days when they weren't invented. People just want a mobile phone to keep up with the trends and to communicate but there are plenty other ways to do it without having to use a mobile phone so its more of a want than a need. Depends what you do I suppose, and if you have other means of communications (gmail, facebook, carrier pigeon etc). But in a general way I think you are right, I think it is ridiculus that kids get smartphones starting age 8, what are they going to do? Phone their friends to ask how pre school was? Side: NEED
