Modern technology has managed to improve satisfaction of our lives by providing us with means to entertain ourselves and a wider choice of leisure than before. In the past, we seldom rely on modern technology as it is considered to be something new to us, resulting in low quality of lives and satisfaction level as seen from minimal forms of entertainment and leisure. Nowadays, many have realised the advantages and benefits of modern technology. Entertainment helps improve our lives by providing simple pleasure and relieving of stress. Leisure helps us improve our lives by contributing ease of access in terms of communication or enabling us to fulfill our desires to shop or travel at the comfort of our own home. Simple forms of entertainment via modern technology involving playing virtual games with gaming consoles such as Playstation 4 and Xbox 360 to playing from technologically advanced smartphones such as iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 beyond the comfort of our homes. This shows how we are enjoying a greater quality of life as compared to before.

Hey Rhaizan!:) what do you mean by modern technology is new to us? what are the stats for it? how long ago was "modern technology" created? Others can argue against your point and say that simple pleasure and satisfaction can be derived from the simple things in life like playing ball games with friends, gardening, etc... I don't get how leisure is linked to the ease of access, please explain... You need to link the entertainment point to the question. And there's a few grammatical errors.

Whether modern technology improves the quality of people's lives depends on the individual. A person's mindset would decide if it is to be used for it's positive and negative. If a person knows how to exercise self-control, he would definitely set personal limits for himself. He would not abuse the convenience of modern technology and can exercise Internet responsibility. He would not be addicted to the Internet for example online gaming. If a person uses public transport and not drive their personal vehicles, he would not emit as much pollutants and would lessen the environmental damage. With social media platforms being made so user friendly as accessible, we must know how to control our sharing of opinions so as to offend other people. If a person does not exercise self-control, he may exercise bad habits like addiction the Internet, for example online gambling. Not only would this affect the individual, it would also affect his family and future financial capability. We would also cause more environmental damage as we use more goods and increase it's demand. This would not only affect us but for future generations in the long run. Therefore, Modern technology may improve the quality of people's lives, but it ultimately depends on the individual and not the capability of modern technology.

The paragraph is able to bring the point across effectively. however, i feel that there are certain parts in which you might want to re-look at. Firstly, in line 8 you stated that, "so as to offend other people". I think you made a typo error as it should be, "so as to not offend other people". Secondly, regrading the examples, instead of stating the examples and elaborating it, maybe you could show a link between your examples and how it affects the quality of people's lives. For example, you mentioned, "he would not emit as much pollutants and would lessen the environmental damage." You could further link by saying that, "Thus, with this controlled damage, people would be able to enjoy a more cleaner surrounding and would face lesser medical problems and in turn, improves the quality of people's lives."

Many people argue that modern technology always improves the quality of people's life in the case of convenience. In the past, any work or task that had to be completed, had to be done through hard work and labour. Moving from one place to another required individuals to rely on their two legs to either walk or pedal on bicycles to reach their destination. It even took Nellie Bly 80 days to travel around the world. If anyone needed to conduct any research, the one and only method was to visit the library, read a huge pile of thick books to gather that specific piece of information they needed. In this 21st Century, however, we can everything we desire with the least effort needed, which also leads to a huge amount of time saved everyday. Now, we can travel to places around the world which was never possible before with the help of Aeroplanes, that too in a couple of hours. Instead of looking in the air, even on the grounds, we now have vehicles to facilitate transport of anything, from heavy and large boxes to us, humans. In fact, we have eco-friendly cars as well that makes the environment around us and the air more cleaner. We can now obtain specific information you desire online through the Internet with just a click of a button instead of reading through bulky books. These advancements have contributed significantly to the happiness of people around the world. With such conveniences, people around the world can save a huge amount of time, with little efforts needed. Thus, modern technology has always led to people having a greater satisfaction in life and in turn always improving the quality of people's lives.

The point on eco-friendly cars is irrelevant as you are targetting the convenience but not the environmental issues. Also, the point of transport of goods is not really persuasive as it may take less effort to transport human than goods. You may want to use other examples that are more difficult to transport, eg. animals such as atomic bombs etc.

Many people argue that the quality of people's life are improved with a wider variety of entertainment and leisure activities due to advancements in technology. We live in a world where entertainment and leisure facilities are always available for our usage. In this era, where modern technology dominates the world, we can now find leisure and entertainment activities online easily. These activities are able to fulfill our desires anytime and anywhere, with just a click of a button. One such example is that we are able to learn how to play any musical instrument just by using applications that can be downloaded to our smartphones, without having to play them physically. Video games online allow us to connect with friends or people around the world, without having to meet them personally, example DOTA, where gamers are able to connect with each other virtually. We are also able to watch international videos online, not only those that are made in Singapore, but others that are produced from other countries such as American Idol. With the use of modern technology, which provides us with easy access to leisure and entertainment, the quality of people's life are always improved as it increases the satisfaction people have in life.

Modern technology has constantly enhanced our communication, thereby improving different aspects of our lives such as work, social and personal life. We are now able to connect with people from different parts of the world. For example, with the creation of communication platforms such as Skype and Instant Messenger, it is now much more convenient to contact friends and relatives from across the globe, instead of the old school emails. At the same time, we can get instant replies to our messages instead of waiting for a week for an email. Hence, this saves us the time, money and trouble to make expensive overseas calls, and allows us to fill that free time on more important things. Through the various social media platforms we are also able to share important happenings in our lives by uploading statuses and photographs through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The advancements made to communication has enabled work and study to become effective. For example, video conferences can be made to affirm partnerships between companies from different countries, for studies, we can now have e-learning lessons at home as well as gain access to homework, lecture videos and notes uploaded by teachers to aid in our learning and revision. All these save time and money, brings us more convenience, frees up more time for us to do other things, hence, enabling us to maximize our time and improving the quality of our lives.

Many young adults and youths these days would agree that the amount of access we have to a great variety of entertainment is largely due to modern technology. This is as these days many would find a source of entertainment online, instead of in the real world as it is so vast. As such, with such advanced technology, people are able to gain access to the online world with greater ease to get a greater variety of entertainment, as compared to in real life. Through modern technology, such as the internet, people are easily able to easily get a greater variety of entertainment as they can access to international websites to get resources not available locally. One example is that through websites such as funshion and sidereel, people are able to watch shows produced from different countries, for free, that are only available in Singapore for a certain cost. Also, people are able to stay connected with and make friends with others to keep entertained through the internet. This can be done through online gaming such as DOTA and LOL. Some people may argue that modern technology does not always improve the quality of people's lives as it causes pollution. With the daily activities of people and increase in production of goods, there is more pollution which causes harm to the environment and in turn, affects the people. Chemical waste from factories may be dumped into rivers which then pollute water bodies, causing marine life in the river to die from chemicals. People who live near these polluted water bodies ,who in turn consume the fishes from the river will suffer from poisoning. There is also air pollution caused by factories that produces smog and automobiles that give out exhaust fumes. These air pollution causes health problems like difficulty in breathing, wheezing, coughing and asthma to the people that breathe in these polluted air. One example is the haze pollution caused by burning of forests. People living the the region where deforestation is carried out, suffer from health problems and will not be able to go about doing their daily activities. Hence, this shows that modern technology affects the quality of people lives.

While many argue that modern technology may not always improve the quality of people's lives, others believe that it is dependent on the presence of a strong, efficient government. A good government is one that safeguards the well-being of its people, keeping them out of harm's way through various policies implemented. Such harm includes the negative impacts that the misuse of modern technology may bring. A strong government that has law and legislation is able to limit the exposure to modern technology in order to avoid the abuse of such technology. For example, in Singapore, the government regulates the usage of cars that emit harmful greenhouse gases by implementing the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system. Such system requires motorists to pay for the usage of certain roads, hence discouraging the excessive use of cars and thus reducing traffic congestion and air pollution. In addition, the possession of modern military weapons, such as guns, is completely prohibited by law to ensure the safety of citizens. This enhanced security in Singapore improves the quality of life of its people. In comparison, countries such as the United States of America (USA), have no gun control. The American government allows the possession of guns in their daily lives. Consequently, shootings and gun attacks have become a routine occurrence in the USA, greatly reducing the quality of life of its nation. These examples illustrate how the government can control the usage of modern technology such that it benefits or harms its people.

Modern technology does not always improve the quality of people's lives as it may cause people to lose their social skills. Over the years, technology has become increasingly popular in helping people communicate. It has become a way of connecting people across the world. However, most people seem to use it to connect to others down the street or even across the table. Messaging our friends instead of face to face interactions may result in us losing our basic social skills such as making a conversation and building and maintaining relationships. Communicating with someone face-to-face, unlike communication online, allows us to watch their expressions, such as a smile or a frown. One example is social networking sites on the internet such as Twitter and Facebook that allows people to communicate online with friends. However, when they meet each other, they would not be able to engage in a conversation with their friends and are socially awkward with one another. They would prefer to use instant messaging or other social media than to meet up and talk with them. When there are disagreement with friends, they may prefer to express their feelings online instead of telling them face to face. Hence, modern technology does not improve the quality of people's lives as they would be unable to communicate with each other and maintaining a relationship with them.

Side: False:Does not Always Improve

Modern Technology does not always improves the quality of people's lives as environmentalists critic that it does harm to the environment, thereby affecting quality of air, water and living conditions of people . The use of technology has been increasing to suit the demand of the increasing population. More automobiles are appearing on the road, providing transport for people. These automobiles give off carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas. Excess carbon dioxide produced contributes to global warming which has made humans feel the extreme heat and some may even suffer from heat stroke because of the increase in the Earth's temperature. By increasing the supply of modern technology to meet the demands of people, more factories will be built. Hence, land will be cleared by deforestation via "slash and burn". This further contributes to global warming as less trees are present to regulate the level of carbon dioxide on the Earth's atmosphere. These factories will produce chemical waste such as sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxides which are air pollutants and causes acid rain. These acid rain corrodes buildings and kill fishes in the sea, making life difficult for people as they will lose their homes for shelter and fishes as food. Hence, modern technology does not always improve the quality of people's lives but it has brought about many environmental problems.

It depends on the indivudual's use of modern technology. An individual that exercise self-control would not abuse the convenience of modern technology. Individuals that use public transport rather than their own automobiles to travel around helps to reduce environmental damage as it reduces the exhaust fumes from automobiles leading to a reduction of greenhouse gases in the air and hence a lower rate of people contracting respiratory health problems such as lung cancer. Modern technology also provides us the opportunity to share our opinions and views on forums on the Internet. However as individuals we should also know our limits to sharing our opinions and not go overboard as to insult other people's religions or views unintentionally. If a person does not have self-control in the use of modern technology, it might result in people falling prey to online scams and gambling or contract an addiction to online gaming. This does not only affect the individual but also his family and friends as it limits the interactions with them, in isolation from the real world. This would have a great impact on the individual's quality of life as it would affect his status in the economy and financial stability in the futrue. Therefore it largely depends on the individual's use of modern technology rather than the impact of modern technology in people's lives.

Side: False:Does not Always Improve

Modern technology does not always improve the quality of people's lives. Modern technology can cause air pollution, water pollution. These types of pollution can cause problems in people's lives. Technology has been highly demanded in recent years, and hence more products and gadgets are being produced. Firstly, modern technology will cause problems like air pollution. More vehicles are being made to satisfy the high demand for the ease of transport, many of these vehicles give off carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas. The carbon dioxide produced traps heat in the atmosphere, and too much carbon dioxide being produced can cause global warming. People will suffer due to this trapped heat. Sea levels may rise, causing flooding in low lying lands, and this will cause discomfort and problems the those living there. The factories used to research supply technology and products to people will produce chemical waste. Some of the wastes may cause air pollution, causing acid rain or smog. The acid rain will cause corrosion of building, and the smog will make it hard for people to breathe. Land is also needed for the building of factories and plants, forests may be burned to provide this land space. The burning will cause haze, and people that live around that area will experience breathing problems. These problems of air pollution caused by factories will cause discomfort and problems to the people, hence making the quality of people's lives worse. The next effect is water pollution. The factories may also cause water pollution by discharging chemical wastes into rivers. People that depend on the river will be affected, as the chemicals are most probably harmful to life. Fishes from the river may be poisoned by the chemicals, and fishermen depending on the fish may consume them. Hence, the poison is passed on to them. The poison may cause injury and maybe even death to the person that consumed it. This causes the lost of lives or more discomfort and problems to the people's lives. An example of a case of water pollution caused by factories comes from Japan, where a few factories caused Mercury to seep into the sea. Fishermen fishing and eating the fishes were poisoned by the mercury, and many died. Hence, modern technology does not always improve the quality of people's lives

An individual that exercises self-control would not abuse the convenience of modern technology on the Internet by watching pornography and getting addicted to using the internet. The usage of public transport instead of using cars excessively would bring bring about undesirable effects such as negative externalities that has a spillover effect and affects the third party that does not actually drive cars of their own and takes public transport or cause environmental damage, deproving the quality of people's lives. The individuals can also control their opinions and views on the internet to prevent any conflicts by knowing their limits, such as not posting unnecessary racial remarks and keeping it to themselves. However, Quality of lives would not always improve in the event that the individual uses modern technology such as the internet to abuse friendships online to gain benefits or carry out scams to take advantage of people and using to their own selfish benefits. The prevalence of conveniences such as gambling online has also worsened the problem of addiction to gambling which can also affect not only the individual but others around them such as the family and friends. The increase in demand of modern technology also leads to greater wastage of resources which would to environmental damage in the long run and hurt ourselves in the end.

About your points, some are unclear, for example, you said that the usage of public transport instead of using cars excessively would bring bring about undesirable effects, that is not true. If you use too many cars, more air pollution is created as compared to when people use the buses instead. Furthermore, technology is now trying to reduce the impact of pollution from cars, hence increasing the benefit of using cars. Whether modern technology improves the quality of people's lives depends on the rules and regulations that the government make. This is so as to maximise the benefits of modern technology and to minimise the dangers of modern technology. They set rules and laws like limiting the amount of waste gas produced in factories. This will help minimise the harmful effects of what waste gases does. They also impose laws regarding about food. The people cannot eat gentically modified food (GM food). This helps in the health of their people as GM food may have an unknown effect on our bodies. The government had also impose policies regarding car usage.
