Modern day feminism: helpful or counterproductive to western society?

So it seems that feminism has become completely ingrained into our society, media and government, but is feminism still useful or has it become a corrupted or counterproductive movement?

It's like a bottle of air that has been held underwater, when let go it shoots up and makes a show of itself before it levels out. Feminism, atheism, homosexulaity, wicca,- all things that were oppressed are now exhibiting themselves and yelling for attention.

Yes, the movement to attain and protect fair treatment for women is still useful and always will be.

Helpful as in the right to vote, leave for pregnancy and reproductive healthcare?

Where has this feminizm infiltrated society? It seems to me the opposite. Like, you don't see romantic comedies with a really ugly chick in love with some beautiful dude and she magically gets him at the end. At worst they'll have only a moderately super attractive girl instead of a super model attractive girl.

Society definitely has a double standard when it comes to men and women, it's so ingrained we barely notice it.

I mean, men and women are different, and differences aren't bad.

I think I'm just confused about where feminizm has infiltrated society. From everything I see it is definitely still a man's world.

lol, like should men still be allowed to hit a girl over the head with a club and drag her back to the cave? Sorry but I'm trying to imagine where you could possibly be coming from. I just don't get where men are being fucked over in the current deal... other than we can't really make as much stripping, but really besides that where are we the victim?

It depends on what you define as feminism. There is a difference between equality and over compensation.

I believe in equality, equal treatment, and non discretion. A large problem with this is the issue of pregnancy, if a women gets pregnant, does she automatically have the right to take a year off? I believe she does not necessarily.

In England, a woman, from day one of employment, has the right to 39 weeks paid leave, and a further 13 weeks of leave, with the same job waiting for her when she returns. Also, while being interviewed, the employer is not legally allowed to ask the woman about her relationships, plans for the future, up to the point that women are not punished for taking off their wedding ring, which is similar to fraud. This means, that a married and pregnant women can apply for a job, get it, call in pregnant on her first day, and get 39 weeks of pay, before quitting to look after her child. Does anyone agree with this possibility? Also, the business is forced to absorb the payment, which, to a small shop, or office, would be absolutely crippling.

Both patriarchy and feminism are counter productive. Egalitarianism is where it is at.

Either present a logical argument or admit defeat. All sexism is wrong.

Oh for the love of st pete. Any idiot knows girls are just as equal as boys. Maybe not as strong or large but very important. And if you decide to take away girls equality to boys just remember the only reason you are alive is because of your mom which just happen to be FEMALE!

As much as I personally support the movement of women, I believe in many cases these days, it is very much taken too far. As the treatment still has to evolve in many places, women are actually given rights superior to men. As far as alimony and child support are concerned, women do have more rights and often the court finds in favor of female sides. This example is one case.

- More women take their employers to court after being terminated from a job or haven't received a promotion, based on gender equality.

In some cases, women haven't been treated equally. In other cases, these people have just been so flustered over the fact that this has happened to them, they have used gender equality as a defense, or more or less excuse to take vengeance and not justice.

The world is changing, and women's rights are improving quite greatly, especially considered to what they used to be, but many people are taking this too far.

Any unfair favoritism in alimony and child support cases is still a result of sexism. It's an expression of the idea that women are automatically better parents, and also less capable of financially supporting themselves. These are traditional misogynist stereotypes. Sexism hurts men, too.

- More women take their employers to court after being terminated from a job or haven't received a promotion, based on gender equality.

I would like to see where this information is coming from so I can read more. These actions may be warranted, as women still get promoted less than their male colleagues.

Modern day feminism is counterproductive in today's society because we are trying to eliminate discrimination. If we want to eliminate this well known issue, the first step is deciding that no one, is better or above anyone else. As proud as women are that they're legally equal to everyone else, (actually, women have two more rights than men) and they're proud of being women, some women are taking it too far and using it to further their positions in jobs. I think that it's excellent that discrimination is being eliminated, but in many cases, gender equality is being used as a defense in some cases where it may be irrelevant.
