My grandson's music page -- please give as much feedback as possible!

Hi, everyone!

As some of you may know, my grandson (also named Anthony) is a 16 year old folk singer-songwriter, and he recently recorded a bunch of stuff and put it on SoundCloud. Would you folks be willing to listen and give some feedback? On things like...

Lyrics?

Music?

Likes?

Dislikes?

Favorites?

Etc.

We'd both me much obliged! Here is the link:

Enjoy!

I really probably shouldn;t be responding to this as I'm very busy but I can never pass up a chance to listen to some new music and provide some moral support to a burgeoning musician. The world needs more people like your grandson.

Why does my opinion matter, well it doesn't really, I'm not a music critic or anything but one of my best friends is a very successful professional musician and I know a good few music nerds, in fact I'm a little bit nerdy on music myself (among other things), also I've been raised from a early age on what I would consider to be some the most classic and soulful music in existence, and my taste has expanded massively since then, I nearly became a musician myself. I love all kinds of music, all genres, all cultures, etc., there are few types I cannot stand (i.e. modern mainstream pop culture garbage). But I definitely have a special place for folk music, and American folk music is exceptional (not as good as Irish/Celtic and indo European but still exceptional), I fell in love with the music and lyrics of people like Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez, and the Dylan (actually that reminds me of a great poem of his about woody guthrie), anyways I rambling.

I didn't have time to listen to all the songs, I listened to the first five, the first one is average (no offense intended), the second is quite good, but the third really caught my attention (perhaps it just resonates with who I am), its very distinctive.

It has a moaning and groaning quality to it that I love, the lyrics are very sophisticated also, very refined, and they work very well with the melody, its rhythmically satisfying.

However, what I love most of all about it is the imaginary and poetry of the lyrics (I love lyrics, I write a lot myself), it also makes very good use of deep meaningful metaphor (which I consider to be of the utmost importance).

It seems like a requiem for a lost love, or maybe just a lost way of being.

I also loved the poem "Others In Their Psyche", your gradson has an amazing story telling ability for a 16 yr old, very impressed, I wish I could listen to more but I really am caught for time. Overall I think your grandson is quite talented, sorry I couldn't provide more feedback, I'll make a debate to share that poem I mentioned although I'm sure you've heard before.

Man, that must have been one really long "trip" you took!

I'm going to agree with Gary, the third song is lovely. I'm not normally into folk, but it's definitely something I can imagine listening to.

It has a very classic feel, the rough emotion of someone much older and more mature than I'd imagine your grandson is, and he's pulled it off very well. The lyrics are nicely put together, tells a good story, and the music itself just helps it all along.

I'd recommend him to try and focus on the slightly less happy songs, it's where his voice seems to sound best. He sounds like he's experienced enough to build from that, but I'd definitely encourage him to base a lot of his work from his strengths.
