Never thank God.

To thank God for some action may discredit the work and selflessness of someone else.

If you get into a car accident, don't thank God you didn't die from the impact, that credit goes to the car's designers. When the police and fire trucks arrive, don't thank God for their rescue, the servicemen are the ones who are sacrificing to save you. When the doctors stabilize you and get you on to a speedy recovery, again, do not thank God; thank centuries of medical advancement and progress administered by the hospital staff that helped you through.

To thank God is to tell everyone else that they were inconsequential,
it's to reduce them to a means to an end,
it's removing their agency,
and worst of all,
it's egregiously selfish.

It doesn't honestly matter if you believe in God or not. To thank God is basically telling everyone else you're more important.

speaking from a deterministic perspective, wouldn't thanking god be the same as praising that factors outside your and everyone's control aligned to allow you to do whatever you're thankful happened? I mean, like "thank God that bus stopped when it did it would have crushed me" you don't say "thank strong Frictional forces" God is to some what Luck is to others. Luck isn't forces or anything that a human element has control of.

Furthermore, using the lords name in vain is a sin. I don't know if that includes falsely attributing "miracles" however.

If were talking from a deterministic perspective, we are only thanking God because God decided for us to thank Him. If it was actually deterministic we wouldn't have a choice but to thank Him or not.

This is dumb, thanking God does not exclude thanking people He gave the ability to help. There are some people who like to help me, and I thank God for them and I thank them for what they do. I dove into an overturned minivan with four people hanging upside down from seat belts in fear that the thing might burst into flames and I would have to stand there watching. I got them all out, and guess who they thanked when they were all four standing together safe....guess who they thanked.

I'll tell you who I thanked....I thanked God for giving me the ability to get in there and get those people out.

All of those things you mentioned actually point to God actually. Who was the one that did all of those things us, humans. And who created humans? God did. So it all goes back to God because without God we wouldn't have humans and without humans you wouldn't have the stuff we have today. So do thank God.

Yep....give thanks for all things, in everything give thanks. Even ungodly scientists and psychologists know that it is healthy to be thankful.

I have never heard of anybody getting offended when a person they are helping says "thank God for you". It's a blessing for anybody if you say thank God for them, and when somebody is being helped and the person is so grateful that they thank God for the person helping them...the person helping them feels honored.....I have never heard of anybody getting mad when a person in need of assistance thanks God for sending help when the help arrives. People generally like the idea that they are being used of God for good...anybody who has a problem with it has a problem and that's their problem...big problem of a bad attitude.

Why didn't god endow the black people of Africa with the organizing abilities of search and rescue and the healing powers of our medical professionals? Some 2000 babies die every day( two thousand babies every 24 hours) in Africa due to a range of illnesses most of which are induced by malnutrition. Should we all thank god for the death of these human beings whom god does not favour and therefore lets 100s of 1000s of them suffer a painful and lingering death every year? So, this begs the question, is god a racist?
