Obama's First Weekly Address

Obama has said that he will give a weekly video address on you-tube, much like previous Presidents have done on the radio. This is his first.

What are your opinions about it?

What do you think about the idea of a weekly video address?

The weekly address thing is a good idea; I'm assuming it will also be aired on news networks and such, right? (Haven't had it on at all today so no idea if it's on TV)

As for the content of his message, I believe he's dead-wrong. How many more emergency bail-out "Rescue Package" things are we going to end up paying for? And I still have no idea where he expects to get the money to pay for all that other stuff he talked about, especially the $150 billion for the Green Energy Economy thing. This country is already too far bankrupt and in debt (both National Debt & Entitlements Debt, over 30 Trillion dollars of it), and what little Hope I had that in him that he'd might do something to Change that huge problem has been effectively erased by this address.

Yes, the weekly address is a great idea and it is also available on radio, from what I understand. President-Elect Obama is planning on using YouTube for this and more.

I believe you've misunderstood his message, however. He is not the President so he can do nothing as yet. The $150 billion INVESTMENT he will need for the Green Energy Plan will come over time and not tomorrow. If the current President and Congress have done nothing to ease the financial crisis by the time Obama is Inaugurated then he, himself, will make certain to extend benefits to over a million people now receiving unemployment checks. Congress is trying to pass a new stimulus package before they leave so it's just a matter of when. Obama was for, not against, the first stimulus package that we had. Why would he now turn his back on needy Americans who require Government's help?

I'm a little late to the debate, and kuk gave a good answer, I would ad though - on where the money would come from.

Obama has a 16 month timetable for getting out of Iraq.

Here's how much it's costing

I mean, the money's there, obviously. We just need to get out of Iraq, where we're not wanted, and at this point, probably doing more harm than good, since they all just hate us anyway.

I like the idea, but his delivery is boring. You can tell he's reading a teleprompter and he's using too much campaign rhetoric. What I want is simple information delivered conversationally.

Side: Good idea bad delivery

9 out of 10 politicians are boring. Maybe I'm being too hard on him. Maybe I should look at the bright side. I might be able to substitute my sleeping pills with his videos ;)

how can you tell a politician is lying? his lips are moving! I would sooner follow people who are impartial (not very many these days) explain with facts and raw numbers their positions and held accountable for those numbers and postions.

Side: Good idea bad delivery

Doesn't he have better things to do than making YouTube videos?

These videos have the potential to educate the public and make government more transparent. Both of these things are critical to a democracy.
