Ownership of Land
I've found myself considering this from time to time and was wondering what others thought. It seems to me that at some point in the future much of the planet is going to be owned by very few people/coorporations/states, yet I consider everyone has a birthright to a place on it somewhere.
Is it reasonable to 'own' land as a personal belonging, or should we be using a 'territorial' model as do other species?

It would seem so, but it's been what? Centuries, that we've all owned land, and we're still not at the stage where we have to pay rent to a select few owners. There has to be a certain ratio to be maintained, or people will just get fed up and have a revolution and start again, no? Side: Bought n paid for, m8
Many arguments revolve around an ideological viewpoint or rather an "in a perfect world" view. The fact remains that we do not live in a perfect world and being that we do not live in this ideological perfect world, there will always be those who are better off than others and are able to own vast tracts of land. It has always been that way and it will remain that way for eternity. There is nothing wrong with this as either these people or their predecessors worked hard and purchased these things to enable their heirs to have a better life. Side: Bought n paid for, m8

A great topic for debate. The primary source of dangerous interpersonal conflict stems from the dilemmas presented by the natural desire for ownership of property. I tend to believe that a person generally has a right to use what someone else is not using, but gray areas where reasonable, good-willed people end up at odds with one another's interests seem inevitable. The problem of private property...Now there's a real brain jammer! Side: I pitch my tent here!
