Pagan holidays.

Does anyone out there know that Christmas, easter, halloween, and valentines day are all pagan holiday? My question is, why do Christians adopt these pagan beliefs and call them "worshipping/giving thanks to God"...its more like "worshipping (pagan) gods"

If you don't believe me check these out:

The Church tried making paganism look like Christianity, in order to get the gentiles to join. For example: St. Brigid might never have existed, she may have been a Christian adaptation of a Celtic goddess.

All major holidays we celebrate these days are of Pagan origin.

many don't realize but Christians invented Christian holidays on these pagan holidays to attract believers. for instance Halloween which is considered pagan was actual a Christian day to celebrate the martyrs of Christianity. Christmas is celebrated off Jesus' birth and easter off the resurrection of him. yes these holidays are pagan holidays as well. but thats the effect of a flip side plan, of a strategic, but maybe not so successful attempt when early Christians tried to have celebrations on these days. i mean think about it. when would be the best day to spread the good news and try to win converts?

a national pagan holiday would be a good start.

Trying to convert people when they are a zenith of religious fervor doesn't seem like a good plan to me.

I'm not trying to convert anyone. It's a fact and I believe Christians in todays society are only fooling themselves. In all actuallity they are participating in the same rituals God speaks against in the bible.

lol it depends on your views. most missionaries that go to other countries go during huge pagan festivals. if you are grounded in your faith, this is the best time to argue against others about your belief since it will spread the fasted and you will reach to the most non believes.

If they want to counter these pagan holidays by converting people to christianity...why do they participate in the pagan rituals? EVERYTHING has a meaning from the christmas tree to the mistletoe for PAGANS. This is how they worship/pay homage to their gods.

why did Paul tell people that they could eat the meat sacrificed to pagan idols?

The sacred oak tree was cut down by some 'saint' or the other, and repaced with a pine tree. I have a bonsai oak tree for yule, to be quirky:)

Here are some wheel of the year celebrations and their christian counterparts:

Imbolc- Febuary feasts

Eoster- Easter Sunday

Bealtaine- Mayday

Samhain- All hallow's eve

Yuletide- Christmas

People should remember that these holidays were not originally christian.

You can also add Saturnalia to the list that influenced Christmas. And of course there are a few others for other holidays.

While this is a valid argument, and I think only should be stated when the opposing debater claims originality, I don't find it worthy to mention otherwise. Pagans stole from other pagan religions, the abrahamic religions stole from the pagan religions and the neo-pagans stole from all of them. It seems to be normal and apparently not that big of a deal because symbols mean something to someone else. They'd just believe they have the correct version.
