Although the Israelis settled and developed the land, they didn't stick with it, and left completely, without making sure that the land would still be theirs. They came back expecting that they could just have the land back, even though they just left it hanging for anyone to take. The Palestinians never left, and yet the Jews are trying to take their land because they left it, and the Palestinians rightfully took it.
They were kind of deported by the Babylonians, and therefore it is not their fault that they left the land at all. If it was actually their choice, they would have stuck with the land, as they think it was given to them by their God.
Although Arabs stayed in Israel while the Jews left, rightfully the land still belong to the Jews. Israeli people have been given the land by the United Nations in 1948 and defend the land they own. So even if the Arabs have lived there the longest it doesn't mean the land rightfully belongs to them.
For instance, I could say that God gave me your sweatshirt and that I should have the ability to take it. This isn't a very good reason for me to take your sweatshirt.
You can't give someone land because God gave it to you. While yes, it is important to consider the religious beliefs of the Jews and that God said they could have the land, there needs to be more evidence that shows that they deserve it. The Palestinians deserve the land just as much as the Israelis do.
You're pretty much completely ignorant of history I guess....anybody who thinks Palestinians have the same right to Israel as the Jews has to be ignorant of history.
Arab Muslims have always been living in Palestine and never left in large groups like the Jews did. They were dedicated to claiming the land as theirs, developing it over time. Therefore, they should get half of the land as well as the Jews. Instead of splitting the land straight down the middle though, they would get equally some land near water, and the drier parts.
I think the Arabs should get a little bit over half of the land. This will give the Arabs and the Jews what they want. The Arabs will get more land which will lead to less fighting for land and the Jews will get peace because the Arabs will stop fighting for more land.
I agree I don't think that it is fair that the Jew get the land because they had a really really sad story (even though it is really really terrible). The UN should have thought of something else to make it sound a little more reasonable.
The Palestinians have always lived in Israel, they never left like the Jews did. There is not a single point in history that they have not lived there. But because the Israelites (Jews) were promised the land, it should be split in half (underneath the West Bank and Gaza Strip) so that each side gets the land they deserve.
The Palestinians stuck with the land that they have always been in, unlike the Israelis. The Israelis gave up on the land and left, but the Palestinians were dedicated.
Along with this, the city of Jerusalem should be neutral territory because both countries claim it as their capital. If the land is split in half, both countries can then live in peace because people won't have to worry about crossing borders or exchanging currency.
I totally agree. Palestinians, being some of the only people to never leave, lived in peace before the Jews came back forcefully kicking them out. The Jews were gone for so long, so why should they get most of the land upon arrival?
They might have lived in the land for a long time but where is their evidence that clarifies they have always been there. Also in 1948, the Jews were granted the land in Israel by the international community.
The Palestine deserve some of the land because unlike the Jews, they never left Isreal. Even though they were never declared an independent state, they were always there on that land. However, the Israelis were given part of the land so the land should end up being slip fairly between the two states. Israel should be split down the middle vertically so that one of the states doesn't have to have part of its land be a desert. This way, both states have to deal with the desert portion of the land. Also, holy places like Jerusalem should be neutral to both states.
Palestine should get the West Bank and some more land because they have been there the whole time. The Israelites still deserve the land that was given to them but the Palestinians should get their own land that they can control and live in with their own rules. Then both countries can leave each other alone. The Palestinians are their own group so they shouldn't have to leave and live in a different country.
I believe that some of the land belongs to Palestine because the Palestinians have always lived on the land and never left in large amounts. They have stayed there. While the Jews left and when they returned, made the Palestinians, who've been staying there, leave their homes.
Although they fully developed it, they did leave it. Unattended. It's common sense to not leave something that you spent a lot of effort just in the dust, so the Muslims got to take what they started and carry it forwards.
I agree with the fact that many of the Jewish Holy Sites are located in the area of the West Bank. I also believe that the city of Jerusalem should be recognized as a Holy Place for those that practice Judaism and Christianity. What do the Muslims find to be sacred about Jerusalem?
I also think that the Palestinians should get some of the land, more specifically, the southern part of the land. I gave the Palestinians this land because it includes the Gaza Strip, and the Muslims already occupy this area. I also gave them more land than the Israelis because a lot of their land is desert, and can't be used for agricultural purposes. Also, because the Palestinians never left, so it only seems fair for the Palestinians to get to keep more of the land that they developed and settled in then the Israelis who just came back to the country that they barely, if they did anything, helped develop.
I believe taking geography/ physical features of the land into consideration is absolutely necessary. In order to be "fair" each group should be given arable land as well as water access.
I agree with this statement. The fairest way to divide the land would be splitting it down the middle vertically so each group gets both arable land and water access.
Also, although parts of Israel are populated with mostly Palestinians, the Jews are starting to take over, not letting them have their own laws and government. It is unfair for the Palestinians to be kicked out of the land that they had lived in while the Jews left. Israel was given to the Jews, so, therefore, they should get some of the land, but they should also let the Palestinians, who lived there the whole time, have some land for themselves to control.
I agree with this because it has never been the Israeli's land to take. They have fought their way into the country, but that doesn't mean that the Arabs should be kicked out. Both of the countries deserve land to occupy
Yes, both sides have reason to believe that the land should be theirs, but while the Jews left, the Palestinians stayed and started a successful country and way of life. Because of this, the Palestinians should get to pick which half of the land they want, while the Jews will get the other half of the land. So both sides get the land they deserve, and the people who stayed, get the land that they want.
I think that the should get a little bit of the land because they have been there longer and there are some religious places in Israel that are important to their religion.
Although Palestine is a holy place for Jews, it is a holy place for Muslims as well. throughout the history, this land has been very important to the Muslim faith as well.
I agree that some places in Israel are holy places and important to the Muslims, but almost all of their holy places are in northern Israel, and those are almost always used for Jewish purposes. That is why I made the southern West Bank neutral so that both groups could access holy places that are for multiple religion, Jewish and Muslim. It is also important to give each side easy access to the neutral section so that they don't have to go through each other's countries to enter it.
Palestine has had basically all of their land taken from them by the Israeli who just barged in and used the land the UN gave them to make an empire. Maybe if the UN gave THEM some land, they might be able to take the land away from the Israeli though I doubt that will happen.
Since the Ottoman empire was mostly Muslim, and they ruled the area for so long, with success, it might be a good idea to have the Muslims rule the area again.
That's true that they didn't have to leave, however, when they came back the UN granted them some of the Palestine's land. The Israelis have a right to some of the land because of this.
The palisteins might want different rules the Israelites, based on their religion, so it might be good for them to have a lot of the land, and have their own rules
I think that Palestine deserves better treatment. Imagine being all happy in a house that you just got when all of a sudden the previous owners came and took back the house and let you have the yard. Then, they took away all of that land until you were living in a small shed in the back of the yard while the previous owners are living the good life in what is supposed to be YOUR HOUSE!
(Both sides should have some) Palestinian communities are split apart nad their connection to the land had weakened, while Jewish communities put down roots in territory meant for the Palestinians
I believe the land of Jerusalem should be neutral between the two groups. This is because Jerusalem is a holy place for both Muslims and Jews so it should be shared. If the land isn't shared then war will occur about who should get the holy place. War won't solve this conflict only make it worse.
Israeli forces defeated the Palestinian militias (a military that is raised from the civil population to help a regular army in an emergency) and Arab armies in a conflict that turned 700,000 Palestinian civilians into refugees. All this just because the Palestinians were developing a country that the Jews had left, and then wanted back, after the Palestinians had already started to successfully make their way.
This shows that the Jews shouldn't deserve the land that God gave to them because they were being very aggressive and mean to many of the people who lived there, they can't deserve something like that since they hurt many.
I think that the Palestinians deserve their fair share of the land. When the land was granted to the Jews, no one asked the opinion of the owner of the land. This would be like someone taking something from you without your consent. The Arabs have been there the whole time, and why should the Jewish deserve to be on that land if they are just going to disturb how things were running. When the Jewish decided to dispute everything that the Arabs did to the land, it gave the Jewish the idea that they could do whatever they wanted to. The Jewish didn't come to the land until WW2 and the Holocaust because they weren't safe in their land anymore. The Jewish people made the Arab's unsafe in their land, basically doing what happened to the Jews. The Arabs deserve a good chunk of the land.
Palestine is the name of the large area of land within which Israel exists. Even ancient Israel does not extend to all of Palestine.
But the debate premise contains a serious error: there are Muslims and Jews and Atheists and Christians who live in Israel, just as there are Christians, Jews, atheists and Muslims in the West Bank & Gaza. The West Bank and Gaza are not an Arab group of lands per se, and Israel is not a Jewish land per se. They are both Palestinian, and both Semitic lands. Arabs are Semites. Assyrians are Semites. Israelis are Semites. Tigrans are Semites. M Akkadians, Phonecians, Syrians, all Semites. And crucially, with the exception of Southern Arabia, they are all Palestinians by right.
Saying that Palestine belongs to the Jews is a little like saying America belongs to Christians. Saying Palestine doesn't belong to Palestinians is a little like saying that America doesn't belong to Americans.
The point is, Palestine, historically speaking, is the huge area covering modern Palestine, modern Israel, Western Jordan, Northern Arabia, North Eastern Egypt, the Lebanon, South Western Turkey, Cyprus, Syria and Western Iraq.
Israelis are -- by the geography of where Israel is situated -- Palestinians.
I know that you are referring to the modern partition when you use the terms Israel and Palestine, but really, in terms of heritage and geography, the partition is superficial. If what you are asking is should Israel be given to the Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza, I think the answer is no.
That said, the state of Israel needs to stop invading and taking land that was not agreed as part of the state of Israel. It is internationally illegal, and a small majority of Israelis disagree with it.
As for anybody who cites historical religious claim as a justification for the illegal occupation of lands, then consider that by the same logic: America ought also to belong to the Natives. Bye bye American citizens. Move out tomorrow.
I think that Israel and Palestine should make a two-state agreement. Both sides would have exactly 8,323.2671 miles of land including Jerusalem. Jerusalem would be neutral ground for both countries because there are multiple religions that consider it Holy and theirs. Israel would get the lower half, and Palestine would get the upper half. There would be one currency and one government so that there would be fewer arguments and less terrorism. I think that this would work because each side gets an equal amount of land and power over the country.
I agree with this, they should have one big government for the whole country and a smaller government for each state, and have Jerusalem as a neutral area, just like Washington D.C. in the U.S.
I think that the two countries should be one, with two states inside of it. They could have Jerusalem as their shared capital, and have capitals of their own. This way, they could have two different governments in each state, and different laws in each, similar to the U.S. They could both have the same currency and regulations, so it would be easier to go to one place to another. They could also have one big governing body that controls the entire country.
I agree, however, I would like to make a few changes. Both Israelis and Palestinians have done good to the land, and in order to separate it so both religions have the same equal chances, we might want to think about the shape of the land. It should be separated so the Palestinians and Israelis both have equal amounts of land near the water (which could be used for agriculture) and dry land. I believe the lower half has many mountains, so Israel, being the first people to develop and defend the land would get the short end of the stick.
I agree that it would be a good idea to have a two-state solution, where both sides have equal land. Having the same currency, and Jerusalem as shared territory would be beneficial for uniting the two together to show that they have equal power. The only thing is, humans can be selfish, and as the Jews claim that the land was given to them by God, and the Palestinians also deserve the land because it was always theirs, the two might continue to fight as they think that they should both deserve the whole country. Other than that, though, I think that it is a plan that will prove successful.
I mostly agree with this statement, but I don't think using one currency and one government would be a good idea, mostly one government. If you are going to split the two groups into different areas, they are in their own state. They should be able to create whatever type of government they want, and it wouldn't make sense for two different states to have one ruler if they are different areas.
I agree with this statement also the Jews have real evidence on why and how they own the land in Israel. The Palestinians don't have any evidence that is legit like the Jews do.
I agree that the Jews have been through a lot, but the Palestinians also developed basically all of the land. I don't think it's fair for Israelis to get to leave, and then come back to a country that they didn't develop, and take over all of the land. That's like in school if you barely started a project, and then the other group member did basically all of the work, and you take full credit for having done most of it.
I agree that the Jews were wrongly mistreated during the Holocaust and that this forced them to flee their country to safety. The United Nations then gave the land to the Jews as a place that they could go and be safe, but was it ever the UN's land to give away? This was supposed to bring about peace, but the Palestinians had been living on the land for the entire time that the Jews had left. By giving the Jews land, that did not belong to the UN, was unfair for the Palestinians, which is why they should get to keep some of the land and get first pick for what they should want.
The Israelis should not get the land just because they have been through hardships. They should deserve the land like the Palestinians do. They stayed in the land of Israel and developed it, only to be kicked out by the Jews because they are pitied? While yes, the Jews have been through a lot and deserve a place to live but so do the Palestinians. The land should be split in half so that both sides can make a country that they want. They should be able to make their own laws without being forced to by the other side.
Out of all the things that the Jewish people have been through, such as the holocaust, I believe that they should get the land. I also believe they should get the land because they were there first.
I think that Isreal and Palestine should have a 2 state but Israel should get more of the land because of how they never left the land unlike Palestine but I believe that Palestine should also get the land because they lived there with holy places so they should at least get a small part.
I agree that they should have a two state solution but I disagree that Isreal should have more land, I think that they should each have about the same amount.
I disagree with this because it was the Palestinians that were there first. During the Holocaust and WW2, the Jewish fled looking for a new country to establish themselves in.
While yes, the Jews were there first, the Palestinians took the land after they left. If the Jewish people left Israel, how is it fair for them to come back, claiming everything that WAS theirs but is now being occupied by a new group of people who deserve the land as much as the Jews do. The Palestinians have their own way of living and want their own land, just like the Jews do. They may be considered Arabs, but they still deserve their own land to occupy without being pushed out.
I think that the Jews and the Muslims can work this one out, by each of the sides getting some of the land, but I think that the Jews should get more land because they don't have any other land, and they were promised it by the U.N.
Once again that claim is based on religion... Think about the Hindu's, would they think that this is a reliable claim. Since they don't believe in that religion, they might think that it is not based on anything.
Just because the Arabs could go to other countries, doesn't mean that they are going to want to. They have occupied that land for a very long time, and they aren't just going to give up their land. The Israelis shouldn't have full right of the land.
Think that Israel should have most of the land because in 1948 the International Community granted the land to them. Also no independent Arab or Palestinian state ever existed in Palestine.
Sure, the Jews did go through many tragedies, but we shouldn't give them the land out of pity. Yes, they developed the land, but they just up and left in large numbers expecting no one to call "dibs" on the now open land. Upon suddenly coming back and forcing people from their homes, the Jews just don't really play a fair game.
Yes, they developed the land, and they fought many wars protecting it, they just left, while the Palestinians stayed. If they cared so much about the land, and think it should be theirs, then why leave?
I agree, the jews have hardly fought for their land and defended it so that means they should have it. Not reward the Muslims for losing the wars and giving a piece of their land to them.
I think that Palestine and Israel should have a two- state. They both claim that the land has belonged to Jews and also the Palestinians. For that, they should both share the land. The land where the West Bank and Jerusalem are located should be a neutral zone so they both share it since Jerusalem is a holy place for both people. And then I split the rest in half so they both share the land they need.
I agree because the Jews left for the war so they should still get some of the land. But also the Palestinians should get a little more because they never left and they were always there and dedicated to the land. But, I think that the Palstinians should be able to pick which land they want first.
I agree with this because there isn't one piece of strong evidence supporting that one state should have control over all of the land. I agree that they should split the land and keep Jerusalem a neutral place.
The Jews developed the land which means it should be theirs. What would you do if you had a well-functioning country, then it was all taken away from you?
While yes, they did own the land, the country was never taken away from them. They left to live somewhere else and while they were out of Israel, the Palestinians started to create a country of their own. They never kicked out the Jews but simply made their own country in the land that was once theirs, but they decided to leave.
So all the work that they did to make the land good was thrown down the drain? I don't believe that is very fair. The jews need a place to live, why not make it where they once did live.
Yes, God did promise the Jews the land, because they were his chosen people, but the Israelites were driven from the land by God for not obeying Him. They should not get the land, because they are still not keeping covenant with Him.
Yes, the land was given to them by God according to the Israelis, but they didn't develop the country. If they were busy defending their country and fighting wars to protect it, how would they have time to develop a stable country. Then, the Israelis left and the Palestine built Israel into what it is today, and they think that they should just be able to take over what the Palestinians built after they fleed.
I think the Israelis should have some of the land because they were given land area. In 1948 the United Nations gave the Israelis land, so they have a right to at least a part of Isreal.
Jewish claim to the land is only based on religion. Although religion is important and even more so in these "Holy Lands", the decision cannot be based on religion alone.
Israeli people rightfully own the land. In 1948 the land in Palestine was given to Israel by the United Nations. Israeli people also fought many wars to defend the land so rightfully the land belongs to the Jews
Even though the land was given to the Israelites, they did it by destroying the livelihoods of the Palestinians, who were there the whole time. The Palestinians never gave up their land to the Jews, and so the Jews shouldn't be able to take it.
I agree with this because the Israelites do own the land. Although the Palestinians may have always lived on the land. The Israelites own it, and have been given it by the international community.
I think that the land should be a divided down the middle and both of them should get half and Jerusalem should be like D.C and not belong to any of them. Also all of the sacred places should be open for both of them to go and pray and any of them.
I think it would be very smart to split the border between the two groups vertically because it wouldn't be fair if one group got the desert like area. This would just cause more war about who should get the desert like area.
I agree because then the geographical features wouldn't be the same and it wouldn't be fair. Plus, like stated before, it would just cause more war and even more conflict than before.
I would have to agree that it should be split but if you split it down the middle vertically that the Arabs would lose some of their holy lands so I think that it should be a line in the middle going horizontally.
I think it would be a good idea to give the jews the upper half of Israel because there are a lot of holy sites up there but maybe give them like about 42% of the entire land because the upper half of Israel is a lot better for things like farming while the bottom half is mostly mountains
I think that the Jews of Israel should occupy most of the land and the Palestine occupy the rest because the Jews were in Israel first and should have all the land that they want and need, then give the rest to the Palestine.
I think that the Jews should also be given some land because the Jews settled and developed the land. And they also have successfully defended the land by winning some wars. Therefore, the Jews should be given some land.
I disagree with this because it was never the Jews land to take. Even though they did win some wars, the Palestinians have been there the whole time, and have never left.
I also disagree with this statement because even though the Jews did defend the land in wars, the Palestinians, after the Israelis left, developed the country into what it was before the Israelis came back and started taking over the land that the Palestinians built and settled in. Also, if you think about it, the Jews didn't have a lot of time to make a well developed and stable country if they were just fighting wars to keep the land.
I think that if they would split it down the middle I think that Israel should get a little more land than the Palestine's because they had to leave they did not really have a choice if they wanted to or not they just had to.
I agree with this, but I believe that the Palestinians should have a little more land because they never left the land. I also believe that Jerusalem should be a neutral area.
They Jews say that the land was given to them by God, which is important to consider because there are many holy sites in Israel, but a country cannot be given to people based on religion alone. The Palestinians have holy sites in Israel too, so they deserve the land as much as the Israelis do.
Although they had the land first, they never said, "This is our land, do not take over it!" when they left. So, technically, once the Israelis left, it was the Muslims land, and you can't really just expect to have it back when they didn't clarify that it was theirs.
Although they have more, it doesn't mean that they should completely have it. The Muslims have holy sites there too that they would like to visit, not everything is a holy site for the Jews, there are many for the Muslims as well.
I don't think that Israelis should have their land taken away because the Palestine have more holy sites. I don't believe that a number of religious sites should be taken into consideration in this decision. If the Israelis get kicked out of Isreal then they will end up with no holy places, and that isn't fair to the Israelis.
The Jews began settling and developing the land as far back as records show. Additionally, they successfully defended the country from by winning several wars. Therefore, half of the land, both dry land and near the coast, should belong to the Jews.
Just because the Jews settled and developed the land, doesn't mean that they should have it. They left the land for anyone else to have because they didn't claim it when leaving, showing that the Palestinians should have it.
I think that the Israelis should get most of the northern part of Israel because most Jewish holy places are in the north, and most of their population (that are Jewish) would be able to travel to these holy places without worrying about traveling through the other group's territory.
The Israelis do have holy sites and sacred places and claim Jerusalem as a sacred and holy capital, but the Palestinians do as well. “There are biblical reasons for treating both sides with compassionate public justice in the same way that disputes should be settled between nations generally,” says Baptist theologian John Piper. “In other words, the Bible does not teach us to be partial to Israel or to the Palestinians because either has a special divine status.”
That is why you would make the area of Jerusalem and Bethlem neutral so that both religions could have access to what they consider a holy place in their religion.
Although they did win all of the wars for their country, they shouldn't have betrayed God's laws by killing many people. If they got the land from God, shouldn't they be grateful and use it for good things?
If they went through all of that to keep their land, ask yourself the question, why didn't they stay? If they wanted to keep the land and settle there they would have stayed like the Palestinians and developed the country that they have worked so hard to protect. But, they left, which resulted in the Palestinians developing and settling in the country. All the Palestinians did was take advantage of a good opportunity.
I think most of the land should go to the Arabs because they stayed in the land when the Jews left. Really the land was just taken from them and given to the Jews without a choice.
I think that they should each get half of their land and have Jerusalem a national land area because then they will not be fighting over it for control.
Even though there are a high amount of Arab populations in other countries, that doesn't give the Jewish the right to come in and take over, and only living Palestine with little land for themselves, which was still under Israeli control
I disagree with this because the Arabs have never left. If the Jews were going to have a problem with who was occupying the land, the Jews shouldn't have settled there in the first place. Even though people claim that God gave them the land, religion doesn't necessarily choose who the land belongs to
I do agree with the statement that Israel is surrounded by Arab states/countries, and the Palestinians could move to another state, but it's the principle of the thing...they (Palestinians) shouldn't have to!!!!!
I agree that most of the population is made up of Jews. The Jews don't have a lot of other places to go because of what has happened to them in the past. The Muslims have never really had anything like that happen to them, So they can go to a lot of different places.
I also believe that the Israeli's should get a good chunk of the land because the International Community granted the Jewish people the land in 1948. Also, the Jewish people settled and developed the land as far back as records show, the Jewish people occupied the land.
I disagree with that because the Jewish didn't arrive until during WW2 and the Holocaust, while they were seeking a safe place. this is showing that the Jewish haven't always been there.
The Jews occupied the land. They didn't for a chunk of time, making the land available for the Palestinians to live and thrive. The land was then developed through the Palestinians when the Israelis left, so they deserve some of the land.
I could also argue that the land belongs to the Christians because of the crusades. I think that people need to have physical evidence that the land belongs to them, and I don't think that it should be religious either.
I agree, many religions could argue that they own the land because of religious reasons, I also think it should be physical reasons, rather that religious.
I agree that their evidence shouldn't be based on religion either because people have different religions that say different ideas. One religion might say the land belongs to the Jews but another may say it belongs to the Arabs. So the decision of who should get the land should be based on physical evidence instead.
Israel should get the land not only it is their safe place they have successfully defended their land in war. Also, the land was granted to them by the international community in 1948. So why should the jews give some land up if they won the wars and have legit evidence that it is their land?
But there is legit evidence that the Palestinians were there the whole time. None of the countries that granted the Jews the land asked for the opinion of the owners of the land (the Arabs) before just giving it away. That would be like taking something from you without your consent.
The Jews have been in war and through the holocaust and other rough stuff and they haven't really had anything good sent to them, so they deserve most of the land because the Palestinians can move.
I'm not going to pretend this is simple or easy. Both sides have legitimate claims and grievances.
But I'm going to base my reply on three observations:
1) Almost every speck of dirt on the globe has changed ownership, and giving land back to an earlier holder seldom happens anywhere else, and possession is 9/10 of the law. - Favor to Israel
2) What Israel has done to develop and advance that land far outpaces what the Palestinians had done or were on the verge of doing, and definitely outpaces how they've managed and developed Palestine itself. - Favor to Israel
3) If the rest of the Muslim world, and Palestine itself, had spent their resources and their lives assimilating those displaced Palestinians and moving on to mutual enrichment they would be thriving long before now. - Favor to Israel
Despite these three points above I still think the Palestinians should get to have a separate autonomous state and they deserve help as long as they don't just use it to building weapons.
And
I do agree Israel has quite often done deplorable things to the Palestinians and that Israel has much it should answer for.
