Well, 'the pen' is mightier than the sword and, by the way, significantly easier to write with.

However, only an optimist would tackle a crossword with a pen.

Pens are permanent, darker, less prone to tip breakage, don't require a sharpener, and the only way to hand sign most legal or official documents.

Pencils still have their time and place. But typically that time and place is grade school, or for filling in multiple choice ovals on tests.

Guess it's really going to depend on what it's for. If it's for art a pencil is best first to do a rough sketch, it's great for documents that aren't the final product, and tests where you have to fill in the bubble.

The rest is really going to fall to the pen. The words last longer, don't get rubbed off as much, it gives a more professional and final product.

I like the ink.

I just like the way it looks.

It's so smooth.

Screw pens! If I'm going to stab someone in the neck, nothing beats a good ole fashion pencil.

That's probably why schools require the "soft lead #2 pencil". The "hard lead #1 pencil" lead to a teacher shortage from all the vicious grade school stabbings.
