People who don't believe in evolution, I have a question.
Do you know the difference between macro and micro evolution? If not, go look it up. Do you not believe both? Or just macro evolution?
Because I had a chat with one of my co-workers who didn't know there was a difference. And it got me thinking.
Macro-evolution is what I have been discussing in some of my other debates. Its root ideology is that mutations and like causes can result in a radical change in organism. An example of this is a cat giving birth to a bird, which is irrational to believe in a state of nature. Micro-evolution is the term for variations within like kinds. Mutations and other such things have limits, because if they didn't then we would see the cat-bird example, and because of this it results in a multitude of "mutant" offspring. One such example is a cat giving birth to a different colored cat. No it's not. That's not macro evolution. Macroevolution IS microevolution but on a long time scale. It's the difference between having a genetic mutation of one generation having offspring that is two inches taller, and the cumulative mutations of ten thousand generations making an entire species eight inches taller and with feet that are larger to support their added weight, along with eyes facing forward, instead of sideways so they can see up and down easier. The same thing, except that macro evolution takes more time. 1

The difference is in no way superficial -- I believe in micro evolution, because we have observed it. However, there is no proof that it's even possible for speciation to occur, meaning that macro evolution is still unproven. Also, most religions believe that their god created the universe, and state the way in which he/she/it/they did so. Evolution's tenet of genetic variation through natural selection goes against many of these, including the Genesis account, and is therefore incompatible with their religion. 2

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Of course you still won't accept that speciation has occurred, will you? Also, most religions believe that their god created the universe, and state the way in which he/she/it/they did so. Evolution's tenet of genetic variation through natural selection goes against many of these, including the Genesis account, and is therefore incompatible with their religion. Not true. Religions evolve (if you'll pardon the irony) to accommodate new discoveries. The Catholic Church evolved so heliocentrism became compatible with their religion. They recently accepted evolution too. The only people that view religion and evolution as incompatible are fundamentalists. 1
