What people call politically correct is actually a moving wall of culture. As society changes/learns so does the usage of the language. Sometimes quickly, look at he seven dirty words that could not be said on TV skit from the 60's and 70's by George Carlin. Many of those words are said on TV now! When people rally against PC they are rallying against change. Those less apt to change will likely feel certain words are fine the way they are. It is no wonder people with conservative leanings are the staunchest opponents to the idea of PC. Side: For

In most cases being politically correct is incorrect, it's not about peace and tolerance it's about using political language to win over more voters. For instance, the local road workers union has spent 5 months working on one pot hole, now any rational person would acknowledge that these people are lazy bastards. Now, the mayor has a choice, he can either call them out on what they really are or he can be politically correct and win their support in the next election. Of course, in order for political correctness (horse manure) to be most efficient, the public must be convinced that it's actually correct. Also, the idea that political correctness is a trait attributed exclusively to the left is false, the same techniques are used by the right as well. For example, a group of American soldiers are captured by Iraqi forces. The Iraqi government states that these men were violating their citizens' rights. Now, a politician may either call out the soldiers for what they are and acknowledge the immorality of our foreign occupation or he can just say "support the troops" and win over veteran support for the next election. Political correctness is just that, political correctness. It's nothing more than a part of the grand political circus that people but to much value in. Side: Against
