Political correctness - gone mad?

The reason we have Political Correctness is because people do NOT want to take the time to try and understand anything anyone ever says.

For example, if a cop is trying to give advice on how to avoid getting raped and he says, "One thing might be to not dress like a slut." Then people take this to mean that he advocates sluts getting raped because they don't take the time to try and understand that maybe what he's trying to say is that if you dress like a prude, your chances of getting raped are reduced significantly.

Could the cop have phrased it better? Absolutely. Should he have said nothing in order to be politically correct? Absolutely NOT because staying quiet does not convey the necessary information that could help keep someone from getting raped.

The example above was contrived in order to depict the point that political correctness is the lazy way out of a situation. The reason people take the lazy way out is because it is really draining to deal with stupid people that insist on being offended by everything anyone ever says.

It's retarded to think that in a modern society that believes in logic and free speech, we can just censor ourselves so that we don't offend anyone. Before we come up with a codename, we have to make sure that it doesn't offend anyone (including the native americans).

Don't call them midgets. That's just the proper term that was created in order to name a certain condition... nope, fuck language and that bullshit... just call them LITTLE people. And don't call them black, that's just the term we use because their skin is pretty much black (i mean, not definite black, but white isn't accurate either yet white people don't give a shit because they, in general, know that it doesn't matter)... nope, call them African American (even though by definition an African American would be someone who was born in Africa and moved to America to become a citizen... right, because all black people are like that).

Political correctness is censorship and a blatant attack on intellect. It's Double-think and Newspeak.

"It's retarded to think that in a modern society that believes in logic and free speech, we can just censor ourselves so that we don't offend anyone."

It isn't retarded at all, the many politicians who use Political correctness are afraid that other politicians may use what they say against them, e.g Obama could discover that one of his rivals has told the media that in one of his speachs the president insulted all white people(or something stupid like that), before you know it that rival's the next president.

"Don't call them midgets. That's just the proper term that was created in order to name a certain condition... nope, fuck language and that bullshit... just call them LITTLE people."

Actually the correct term is "vertically challenged".

" And don't call them black, that's just the term we use because their skin is pretty much black (i mean, not definite black, but white isn't accurate either yet white people don't give a shit because they, in general, know that it doesn't matter)... nope, call them African American (even though by definition an African American would be someone who was born in Africa and moved to America to become a citizen... right, because all black people are like that)."

Only the U.S has done that to their black citizens.

"Political correctness is censorship and a blatant attack on intellect. It's Double-think and Newspeak."

Hence why it's so great.

According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the term midget comes from midge, a sand fly, and the diminutive suffix

the term has been used since 1865. While Dwarfism describes people with small limbs, midget describes those with a proportionately small body. i.e, wee-man is a dwarf while mini-me is a midget.

Obviously there is some area where you need political correctness, such as horrible things in the past like the holocaust, but in today's world it has gone too far, you can hardly speak in a public forum about politics or other such people centered areas without scouring what you wish to say for everyone who might be insulted by the way you phrase something. For example, a tea party activist was quoted as saying that "the only reason Obama was elected was due to throngs of uneducated people who were illiterate" and has since been consistently called a racist. Did his quote mention anything about race? No, people just see it that way and label him a bigot, making it easier to ignore anything he or anyone else arguing on his side based on the fact that they are racist

Political correctness is a whole new language which many can uderstand but few can speak. I personnally find it entertaining to replicate the way society members of high status attempt to hold a good conversation without offending anybody, it's a difficult thing and I admire those who have the brain power to manage it.

Your argument hardly seems to be in the right column. Why should we be expected to speak such a "complex" language in the country of the free?

I want to make 1 thing clear, I'm not american, you may also call Britain the country of the free but I'ld prefer it not to be.

Are you saying that people in the U.S.A aren't free enough to be educated into politic correctness? and I never said any should be expected to learn such a dialect of english. I in fact, said it was a very difficult thing to do.

"Political correctness" is a term re-adopted by neoconservative writers in the 1980's from a much older communist lexicon. It's a tool to frame political discourse. A term to disparage multiculturalism.
