Porn - Is it wrong?

I'll save the drama and get to the point.

Pornography: Sexually explicit media that may depict intercourse or other sensual activities. Typically the majority of the stuff that only people over 18 can watch. In some cultures, in fact many cultures, forbid watching pornographic images. However, porn is no small industry. According to Adult Video News - a trade video publication, consumers bought nearly $13 billion worth of adult entertainment in 2006*.

What do you think? Is watching sexually explicit media wrong, or could it be a natural human trait? Is it wrong to go against our own culture and engage in some activities? Discuss, deliberate and debate, but remember that everyone can see what you input, so no mature content please.

It's not an easy decision to make. I believe that porn degrades women, gives men an addiction, and is overall detrimental to society. On the other hand, couples who may want to learn 'techniques' or want to use it in a way that is beneficial to them should be allowed to do so. However, you could find all the information you need without having to watch porn, so I don't see a good reason for why porn is not wrong, unless you look at it in the perspective of the women and men who make a living off of it.

it is not advisable. The public expects to be gentle men and after all what the hack do you get from watching shit like that. Any way it is your wish but it is a major distraction from your original course of life. Who takes it good, feels good; who takes it bad, avoids it. If you avoid it, you are good. but as my parter had said, t is a difficult thing to answer; the youth is more easily distracted due to which they lose their peace of mind and get addicted. Holy Christ!

Just because something makes profit, does not make it morally right. Sex used to be something that was something special between two partners. Now, its just a cash cow.

It still can be special between two people. If you believe that sex is an emotional and physical experience that can only be shared between two people, then don't watch porn and save yourself for your spouse. But there are people out there who don't believe this, like sex addicts. And honestly, porn doesn't hurt anybody, so it is not immoral. Wouldn't morality only play a part when somebody is hurt either emotionally or physically? If porn hurts somebody emotionally, then chances are it's due to the person who is making it or watching it, not the entire industry.

Even though I'm not totally against porn, to say it doesn't hurt anybody is wrong. In the end it's how you define it but imo the women and men have no respect for themselves, guys who watch it think of women in that way and treat them the same etc.

Worst part is it's availability and access. Kids can access porn from a young age and become exposed to something they don't understand, and so build their own understanding of it (which tends to be wrong) I think we basically need stricter regulation on porn and make it very hard to access and so that only sex addicts can get them.

Pornography is teaching our youth to just worry about the end result and not the love and the feelings that go along with sex. Therefore, it is wrong.

I think it is wrong if for no other reason than it perverts society. I agree with freedom of expression, and legally, not much can be done to stop the production of pornography. But I am a big believer in the founding fathers of this nation, and I think if they had known how certain freedoms have been perverted and bent out of shape, they'd be rolling in their graves.

It's so very wrong. In fact, isn't it one of the 7 deadly sins? The fourth one, actually. It is: Lust: is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.

See? In the 10 commandments :7. “You shall not commit adultery."

So, yes, it IS very wrong.

But see, you're trying to argue against something with your beliefs. What about those who are not Christians / Catholics. Not everyone believes in the 10 Commandments, much less follows them. So...

How would anything be against our own culture, if it's a multi billion dollar business? As long as sex is practiced and filmed consensual, there is nothing wrong with it. Make love not war.

That's a great argument for drugs, prostitution etc.

The minimum length for an argument is 50 characters. The purpose of this restriction is to cut down on the amount of dumb jokes, so we can keep the quality of debate and discourse as high as possible.

The way I see it, as long as all parties in the porn are consenting, there's nothing wrong. That's because rape is not involved and nobody is getting hurt (unless they're into sadomasochism.)

Side: It's OK...I guess

As long as it doesn't get into the wrong hands I guess it's ok. But there's the rub! How exactly do you keep if from getting into a child's hands? Adults with children should have this stuff locked away in their bedroom's so the kids cannot get to it.

Fantasies are very important for human beings; we fantasize about being the James Bond, we look at well decorated presentation of foods to increase our appetites, and in the same way, we fantasize about sex to make it better. Porn, may be treated as a mild form of viagra, and in that sense, it does help people to enjoy their sex lives better. It can't be harmful, and it is equally useful for both the sexes. Some people get put off by porn, and these people would be in the category of unfortunate souls who can't benefit from viagra.

Good enjoyable sex is a gift of the fantasizing capability of the mind. People ( i.e., normal people ) do not get sexually excited at the sight of a naked dead body, or by the sight of naked destitute or mad people ...

what motivation does a kid have to watch porn besides it being taboo?

pre-teens and teenagers can use it as a important form of education and pleasure. What is wrong with that?

adults the same.

addiction to anything is dangerous. Cost and benefit analysis along with creative thinking would have to be used to come up with the best solution. which isn't banning it based on the fact that its two people having sex in-front of a camera.

I do view people who has sex on camera for the monetary compensation as prostitutes. however if they would have it anyway and decided they might as well get paid or share it with the pubic then it is possible to not consider them prostitutes.

by what standard is it disrespectful? We are all whores in the sense that we sell our labor, the physical moments of our body and reactions of our mind for money. unless your wealthy that is. what is it that makes sex more disrespectful to yourself then any other labor?
