For as long as I've been Christian, praying has done nothing for me...

For as long as I have been Christian, prayer has done something to me. It made my faith stronger and my relationship with God stronger and He has answered my prayers and still does today around the whole world and continues to do good work even tho we live in a world that is corrupted and full of sin.

lemme break it down for yall:

prayer -> meditation -> heathy -> linked hemispheres - better thinking -> better choices -> better living

I believe prayer simply provides a placebo effect. When people think something is helping them, it can actually help them because they feel better emotionally and that can have positive physical effects. Also, if you believe prayer works, like anything else, you tend to make the world fit that belief. "I prayed to get better and I did. Must have been the prayer!". The problem is it could have also been the medicine, or just time that caused you to get better. People should pray if they want to, just make sure that your not using only prayer when other "proven" remedies to your problems exist.

It is also a form of meditation. It helps one gain confidence in facing one`s hardships and gives a sense of self-discovery.

What pseudo science says that?

Side: No

I do recall watching a documentary on netflix (I forget the name) where a professor did a study/research on the effects of prayer. Prayer itself has the potential to put religious people in some meditative mental state, of which the effects although not huge can be positive. Although, this can be achieved through meditation without the use of prayer as well...

My apologies for no source.

I assume you mean that prayer has never worked for anyone. Your wording is unclear as to whether this is a yes or a no, but I would like to let you know that there have been studies on prayer. ALL of them have shown no evidence that prayer is more effective than blind chance alone.

Whether or not the physical act of abjecting oneself before one's deity and praying for something makes one feel better or gives a sense of well being is entirely immaterial to the question of whether prayer works. Music can change one's mood at least as effectively. The bare fact of the matter is that prayers cannot be shown to have actually been answered. Therefore, prayer does not work.

Side: No

Prayer is a completely useless BS. It's probably the only way how to do nothing and think that you are actually helping.

Side: No

Its an unhealthy illusion that clouds peoples judgement and distracts from rational thinking.

Lemme break it down for you:

With prayer:

Laid off > prays > doesnt put personal effort into attaining new employment > stays unemployed > debt > bankruptcy > poor standard of living

Without prayer:

Laid off > pro-actively seeks new employment > gains new job > continued quality of life.

Prayer doesnt really do anything at all (because god isnt real), the illusion is clear to see when we look at it objectively.

"God can answer prayer 3 ways: Yes, No, and Wait. With these three options no matter what the question god cant lose!

"God i want alot of money amen"

1) you get the money

2) You dont get it

3) You win a 10000$ scratch ticket 5 years later.

"God' didnt really do anything. Its all up to chance. I can ask the magic milk carton the same question and its no different than asking god.

And its strange that "god" can even say no. In the bible it says he will grant your prayer at some point, so shouldnt that only leave yes and wait? How is no an option?

I also find it anoyying how christians react to the answers. Say there are 10 people with cancer that has a 1/10 survival chance. All get prayed for. 9 die and one lives. Now you dont hear about the 9 prayers that went unanswered, no. Its either ignored or given the excuse "oh it was god's will" which again makes it so god cant lose, and from the one guy who lived you get praise and haleluja and whatever because the prayer was "answered". (when it reality it wasnt, it was the radiation therapy and medical care from trained professionals with 21st century technology that did).

Prayer is a form of meditation at best. Prayer only has an illusion of effectiveness because the brain is simply telling the person it works. The scientific evidence has to be pseudo.

Like the placebo effect with medications. Even those not given the real thing still get a minor result because the brain thinks the body was given a drug and then replicates its effects.
