There is a proposed cut to the Defense Budget ranging from $495 billion to $995 billion. Good idea or bad idea?

It is absolutely comical how much money we spend on military: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ We spend almost as much as every other country in the world combined. Not only that, a very high percent of the "money" listed under what other countries spend, is actually what the US spends for them. So the numbers are really much higher. And it's not only the ridiculous amount we spend, it's what we already have. We have several submarines that each have more nuclear capability than any single other country on the planet. We have scores of nuclear missiles here that can be launched at any time and hit any point on the globe within meters, each of which are something like 10 times as powerful as the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. We could basically kill just about every living thing on earth several times over, and create such nuclear fallout it could be hundreds of years before things could start living above the ground again. Like, if the US was a bunch of psychos willing to actual use these weapons, we could start a war with the rest of the world and win handily if we don't mind destroying most of the earth in the process. What the fuck is the point of all that? It's the definition of retarded. I say cut military spending in half at least. Side: yes

One of the worse things is that we have thousands of military bases around the world and no one can suggest that, maybe, the United States is becoming an Empire. The only thing worse is that the UN is competing with the States to become just as influential. We must put away this view on butting into other's business and exerting influence around the world.
