I doubt people are able to create a social order as cruel as anarcho-capitalism despite alleged efficiency. What becomes of most market societies: a liberal comes to town, bans the obviously cruel aspects of capitalism, declares that capitalism has become humane when it has become more crony and institutionalized. The efficient market hypothesis justifies any use of economic power whatsoever, undermining any notion of justice in the very construct of such a private state, therefore making it a commodity. Contrarian/ Green, but if we're talking about USA then Liberal. Green because its much more peaceful and it is completely different to the others! Liberal ( of which I do not know very much about ) because I don't mind gays, I don't mind alcohol, smoking and I don't see why marijuana should be illegal. Equality is the best.. None of this " Rich can look after each other, everyone else, fend for yourselves" crap. I believe it is the governments job to protect and serve its people and make sure no one is left out. Otherwise what's the point in a government? I am not completely against abortion, and I am completely against the death penalty! Not to mention I'm all for stem cell research. Euthanasia is something I have been supporting for a long time, and something that might bug people, I don't see global warming as a "myth". Not to mention gun law regulation. I'm not all against immigration, and I believe the state and church should be separated. I am not insane about terrorism ( I realise it is a threat, but not exactly a priority! ) Hmmmm, more liberal than I thought :) 2

1. Libertarian Capitalist 2. The free market is the best economic system 3. So that the record of history is absolutely crystal clear. That there is no alternative way, so far discovered, of improving the lot of the ordinary people that can hold a candle to the productive activities that are unleashed by a free enterprise system. - Milton Friedman 1

1. Oxymoron, I prefer the term apple pie libertarian. 2. Unproven claim. The free market has little to do with peoples freedom to choose in absence of authority: actual freedom, not freedom to sell yourself. I prefer the term unfettered power market. 3. What a fanatically unquestioning attitude toward economic power. The definition of ordinary people used by Friedman means everyone except the poor, as seen in Chile. Efficiency depends on the circumstances: Feudalism was best in the early middle ages and anarchism in prehistory. China's authoritarianism seems to do very well nowadays. Efficiency consideration doesn't produce a society that is in any way better than any other efficient society like Nazi Germany. It is even naive to assume that your proposed society will be the most efficient. 1

1.) Political Moderatism 2.) I will never take on an astute, unchangeable opinion regarding politics, as politics influence the lives of innocent people, and therefore I will never hold onto a belief that otherwise makes innocent people suffer. If a present opinion of mine were to turn out to be something that causes suffering in practice, I would pass it up and think of something new, unless there was no other choice which was better than it. 3.) I don't need to try and convince other people of anything. Humanity will either eventually follow this idea or we will eventually go extinct. I have empathy, but I am also realistic, and realistically, I cannot change most people's opinions. It will have to come naturally to others as it came naturally to me. And I suspect it will, since we collectively are concerned with advancing the species as a whole, even if we are selfish. 1.) Anti-authoritarian. All authority should be questioned. I believe in a transparent system of direct power if in some cases institutional power is necessary. 2.) Contemporary ideas like libertarianism and liberalism try to hide power behind overly metaphysical and strangely specific notions of freedom: negative and positive liberty. 3.) Liberty is defined against the notion of power. If no object is affecting A, it is free. What else is A if not free? A slave to his sinful ways of masturbating? I don't believe in god or any metaphysics that distorts this. There is no "free" transaction in the free market, everything is associated with financial power. The free market is merely a market of power. In it we depend on other peoples arbitrary will. If there is necessary need for institutional power it should be direct and transparent, not convoluted, hidden, ideological and constitutional. |
