Question to you regarding the Government.....

Is the United States Government  really this omnipotent power-hungry organization out to control the American people? Or have the paranoid American people demonized their own government and created an enemy that simply isn't there? What do you think?

I personally don't know. But....I do believe that either way, we could do without our current form of government.

Side: Either way we don't need them

Just to demonstrate how much the government is an power grab organization, the Federal Government owns 26% of the GDP. All forms of government own 40% of the GDP.

Also, there is the Patriot Act, which limits personal freedom, along with the numerous state laws, city ordinances such as in Oklahoma City Police Department arrests an 13 year old boy for the illegal possession of a permanent marker.

"we could do without our current form of government."

I can only agree.

Then move to another nation. For all our flaws, we are a model of civilisation. Our secular democracy has been an inspiration across the world.

The government isn't IngSoc...

But it still has more power than necessary. Police have the ability to fuck you over and they have the Blue Wall. Government has the ability to tax you on w/e it wants. As well, they watch over us all the time.

And they won't let us do anything that they consider morally wrong. not to mention the billions of dollars they waste on meaningless crap (war on drugs, internet control).

Isn't there a fine line between totalitarian and democratic government.

"Government has the ability to tax you"

Yes, the social contract theory. We consent to taxation through our elected representatives.

"They won't let us do anything that they consider morally wrong"

Yes, again, that is right, the government does not consider murder to be appropriate, therefore they won't let you kill joe-shmoe.

Way to misrepresent things that I say in order to blindly support limitless government.

Tax you on WHATEVER it wants. If it wants to raise the wages of their own employees, they will just raise taxes on citizens in order to pay those wages (as they do over and over again). If they want to spend money on enforcing unnecessary laws, once again, out of our pockets. Thomas Jefferson (author of the Declaration of Independence) said that taxing people for programs or laws that they did not believe in was tyrannical.

Murder is proven as infringement on someone else. Drug use and Prostitution, however, have proven to only be infringement on others when they are ILLEGAL. Making them legal would be in support of civil rights. However, due to people's morals, drugs and prostitution are illegal despite the harm that it causes to all of society.

The government is watching as a result of our constant want of protection from the government. When someone came up with the brilliant idea that surveillance should be put out in stores and other public places, many citizens felt that it gave everyone extra protection.

Yet, the flaw in that is crimes are still committed and the cameras only give the hint of who may have committed the crime.

Now, people complain of too much government control, but they don't realize that much of it is our own fault. We had given the government the chance to watch us, and most certainly they will.

The measures of protection that the government has taken to prevent America from getting attacked by terrorists may be true intentions. But once again, we had given the power to the government.

When you talk about government control in America, I believe that it is the result of our doing.

In reality this has nothing to do with the government. Store owners put cameras on the outside perimeters of their businesses to protect themselves against vandals and thieves, and they are perfectly within their rights to do so.

A lot of it is paranoia, and fervent political propaganda. Coupled with our relentless and increasing perseverance for dissonance, the American mass paranoia epidemic is simply a political mechanism.

Let's say there was something dreadfully wrong... How would we know? No rational individual is going to believe the same people whom have been saying this for years. We'd dismiss it as I had and do. So what's my point? There is no way of knowing at this rate, and it's more likely that what appears to be actually is than what is said to be.

The government is watching, yes, but, then again, when haven't they been? What is it but the local law enforcement expanded to the federal domain over areas that only the federal government can access. The government is watching you, they have leads that you may be a child molester. Now, if they catch a child molester, we all say yay.

And besides, any legislation passed, we know about, they are our elected officials, you don't like the patriot act? You toss'em out on another platform for repeal of the law. However, there are many times that rights must be suppressed for the greater good. Abe Lincoln, for example, did many things that the courts "put off" until after the war to declare unconstitutional, such as the income tax. Honestly, if you think your government cares that much about you, you must think you are some sort of celebrity.
