Religious debates between people of different religions are pointless.

I don't think there should be a religion section on this website. The majority of create debate's main users are either atheist or hate Christianity. So what we have are hundreds of debates that are nearly the same christian bashing, pointless debates about the existence of god.

I'm sick of it.

Well sometimes it's necessary, but for the most part, atheists (not all of them) like to point out everything in a religion that they disagree with. Rather than criticize humanity as a whole, I have seen a lot of atheists criticize religious figures.

I remember in one debate, the question asked which was more important: prayer or hard work. I answered prayer because I believe that "you should pray as if everything relies on God but act as if everything relies on you." This was downvoted, I believe... But I said this because it's been seen many times that good morale is the key to success. For example, people in hospitals heal quicker when they are in happy atmospheres. A lot of people just work better when they can believe in prayer, like me.

Agree.

It's just a never-ending argument that has been going on for centuries...well ever since there has been more than one religion.

Of course they are pointless, what is not grounded in reason cannot be solved by logic. Religious faith is deeply personal and although i am atheist i respect anyones right to it. Its when one member of a religion bashes another that you are going to start an unending spiral for neither point can be proved so neither can be resolved.

Atheism isn't a religion and all religions will die out eventually anyway. So yes debates between religions are pointless

They're only pointless when you're arguing with people who evade your arguments, don't address them or outright remain stubborn about them.

99% of debaters on this site are like that.

In general I find views on hinduism completely misguided so not many people can have arguments that hold water. Only that 1% will ever be useful to debate but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

The problem is the way debates are on this site. There's no moderation - no judges - no right or wrong. Only who either writes more posts on one side or who has less downvotes on one side. If we were to have proper conclusive debates I assure you these debates would not be pointless. It's a system that needs to be introduced onto CD.

These debates are most crucial in the pursuit of understanding. If it is possible to communicate in a civilized and respectful manner about religion, then we can find peace in our differences. I'd rather debate about my beliefs than solidify them with a bullet.

Atheism isn't a religion so I'm not sure what you are talking about. And why is Mr. "Political correctness is so stupid and for liberals" complaining about people criticizing Christianity? There is nothing special about Christianity or any religion that makes it exempt from critique. Furthermore if you are sick of these debates, then don't look at them. I know that cognitive dissonance is uncomfortable, so I wouldn't blame you for avoiding things that trigger you to think about religion logically.

Wow you really went after me on this one.

"Atheism isn't a religion so I'm not sure what you are talking about."

fine: 'People of different religious beliefs' Happy?

"why is Mr. "Political correctness is so stupid and for liberals" complaining about people criticizing Christianity?"

It is stupid and for liberals. I'm just talking about this website. And the many many debates that are all the same. It's annoying.

"There is nothing special about Christianity or any religion that makes it exempt from critique."

[sigh] Of course not! That's was just an example, calm down.

"Furthermore if you are sick of these debates, then don't look at them."

I try. But they are all over the place. On the front page over and over again.

"I know that cognitive dissonance is uncomfortable, so I wouldn't blame you for avoiding things that trigger you to think about religion logically."

... Clever way of criticizing me. And I don't care if you "blame" me for something.

You made a pointless 'debate.' You are just complaining because you don't like it when people disagree with you. If you have the maturity to ignore them, or even better discuss things with them rationally, then great. If not, then return your intellectual bubble of Fox News, your conservative family, etc. Maybe one day you will be able to handle being exposed to ideas contrary to your own.

Well, the whole point of a debate site is to debate an issue.

This subject's issue is on whether religious debates on this site actually have any merit.

You think they do, he thinks they do. A fine difference in beliefs, but your comment isn't much of a rebuttal but just a complaint on his complaint.

He has brought up a topic, and if you wish to pose an argument you should probably try to focus more on why religious debates (mostly those started by atheists) actually have a point.

If you just say "if you don't like them, don't look at them" you are completely dismissing the point of the debate and debate in general.

What is there to argue about if you get to baptists or two Catholics talking? A Christian and a Muslim on the other hand, now there is a debate!

I believe I've said it before, but I think that an agnostic is the best debater because they have no religious leanings, whereas a Christian has a pro-Christian agenda (conversion to Jesus) and an atheist has an anti-religious agenda. Though I am sure that there are some out there who welcome anybody regardless of religion.

Not really. I've convinced plenty of religious people that most of their beliefs are bullshit. the hard part, though, is convincing them that their God or Messiah is bullshit.

I won't say that God DOESN'T exist because you can't prove a negative. But Personal Gods and Prophets and anything religious is pretty much disputable.

They are fun even if you usually don't convince anyone (but you don't convince many people to switch sides in political debates either).

And I have seen one person going from easily offended Christian to easily offended atheist after having many discussions about religon.

the only way to teach retarded people: by repetition

therefore I disagree - debates about religion are valid even though they are repetitious.

I also dont think you can call someones disbeleif of your creeds "a religion" (atheism)
