Right to your opinion

I'm redoing this debate because I don't think it got enough attention last time....

Do people have the right to their opinion?

Yes.

The problem is some people on this site (you often) mistake something which is factual (or false) as the opposite. Like, an opinion is "I like blue better than purple" or "rock is better than techno." Questions like evolution, plate tectonics, the age of the earth, gravity, are not "opinions," they are measurable things which can be proved (and have been beyond any doubt in these examples) either true or false.

I would qualify the tag of this argument by saying that you have a right to your opinion, only if you know the difference between an opinion and knowledge.

Wait... I have an example. Weren't you arguing about mutation, and how it can only lose genetic code, and that this somehow disproved evolution?

You see, this is factually incorrect. It is not a matter of what you believe and what other people believe, it is simply a matter of you being wrong about something.

And while you do have a "right" to be wrong about something, you do not have the right for other people to "respect your wrongness."

Now this can get confusing I know, but bare with me.

Some things are not necessarily known but are still a matter of knowledge and not of opinion.

Say I have a bag of kittens.

There are X kittens in this bag.

I don't know how many kittens there are and you don't know how many kittens there are.

This lack of knowledge does not mean that "my opinion is 11 kittens!" is correct. The sentence is wrong in fact. The proper way to convey that idea would be "I think there are 11 kittens" or "I'm guessing there are 11 kittens."

But not "my opinion" because it is not a matter of opinion. There is 1 factual answer to the number of kittens in the bag, and whether or not I, you, or anyone on earth knows how many kittens are in that bag in no way changes the number of kittens which factually would exist in this bag.

And how do you know that what you believe is not incorrect? How do you know that what you think to be knowledge is actually opinion?

Knowledge can be incorrect, but it cannot be opinion.

Here is the problem.

The problem is not the fact that you happen to be incorrect about some knowledge that we have discovered, like those listed, that's fine, be wrong. Fucking dumb, but be wrong.

You confuse the two though. Just because something is thought does not make it an opinion.

Yes, if an individual did not have a right to an opinion, it would violate the principles of human rights, i.e. self ownership. Taking away people's right to an opinion is instating thought-crime.

You seem to be confused with opinions and actions.

Side: For

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, no matter how wrong it maybe .

Side: For

Being entitled to your own opinion has been taken for granted in this 21st century. Nobody is saying don't say what you think/feel, however majority of people say something outlandish/absurd and say 'well it's my own opinion' - For example one could say, Obama is the worst president ever, okay fair enough.. however his facts of changes and improvements in America beg to differ. I just think 'my opinion' needs to be re-evaluated. Have an opinion which is actually logical and one that can be justified.

Side: For

Everyone has a right to their opinion. It is wonderful to have a wide diversity of opinions.

"You are not entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to your informed opinion. No one is entitled to be ignorant." Harlan Ellison

Harlan Ellison is a genius. His short stories are absolutely amazing.

So yes, I agree with you.

Foolish, backwards opinions that harm people and society should NEVER be tolerated for more than a minute. Obviously a brief consideration of all ideas is wise, or you may miss a lot of good stuff, but once shown to be no good, those ideas should be abandoned.

"Soldier From Tomorrow" is one of my favorite stories by him. War is truly terrible, and NOT a good idea.

See you didn't really understand the quote. You are being ignorant. You believe 9/11 is something that ALL muslims agreed on. I am a American and believe in Islam. My friend 'friend' died who I knew a little. Just because these buffoons who analysis my religion as some type of barbaric reich, doesn't mean I am just like the terrorists on 9/11.

To be honest, I couldn't feel anymore insecure or exposed days after 9/11 occurred. I was staggered by not only those who showed no respect to me or even give sight to me to begin with. But you know what? I let it go. Because not everyone knew the Islamic values and that Al-Qaeda has been a terrorist organization which shows nothing of islamic morals or values. But its 2012 going to 2013 and this is still going on!?!

I can't explain my religion to the uneducated because it will go right through them. The reason why the don't care about our religion because now it promotes other religions. I don't know who "informed" you about Islamic Fundmentals but you should know that we are people of strict and holy traits. NO, I am not someone who screams "allah" and my wife is a AK-47. I am overall a docile person who loves to study about technical engineering and has attributes to work for microsoft in about 2 more years.

Hey, I don't blame you of your ignorance. You may have no clue what Zakaah, Hajj, Ramadan, or Hirajh even mean. Guess what! Our county has establish islamic basic concepts as a chapter to be taught! It was already a chapter to begin with but they augmented it so its more emphasized on religious aspects than political. Now, if your a grown man and think like such than I can sincerely see that your ignorancy is going to be something I cannot remedy. If that is how you made up your mind on my beliefs than so be it. But know, I do care what you think about my religion. If you saw me, I bet 100% you wouldn't know I was muslim and treat me maybe as a religion of other relations. Thus of informing of my actual religion you may change how you think of me but, regardless, I am not some insane murder ready to kill at any moment. If you want hate any group of people put it towards terrorist organizations.

Last time opinions were established we got the 2 most ugliest babies in the world:

Democrats and Republicans.

I hate opinions. Someone can say the grass is green while other 50000 people say its red then say to that one right person: "hey its your opinion." Thus, those 50,000 people never understood why the grass is green. They stay ignorant. If people spoke with facts than opinion then imagine how much better the world would be. If we had COMMON SENSE, we wouldn't have racism because it would be factual that their is no difference in intelligence bewteen a asian guy and a black guy. But no, we had opinion thus gave birth to: racism, sexists, bigots, etc.

There should be 1 opinion in this world to fight about which seems to be religion. Again we could look at the grass situation like I mention before but remember religious views has a lot of evidence as much as their is fantasy.
