Government is necessary, as it is fundamental to our society in that it provides order, protection, and regulation. First, government keeps society organized as it sets laws that must be followed. These laws restrict people from acts that could be harmful to society, such as not stopping at stop lights, or restricting people from breaking into houses. Although these laws restrict some of our freedoms, it provides a roadmap for acceptable behavior within our society and provides for order. This being said, the government also provides vital protection for society. These protections include handling foreign affairs and providing a national military, specifically making it so people can not just come in and take over our territory. Additionally, the government provides basic protections such as distribution of consequences for those who riot, and or commit violent acts without reason. Furthermore, governments set regulations to regulate industries and goods such as water quality control, minimum standards for working conditions and different sizes/shapes of items that can be sold. This is essential to society as it helps to eliminate the selling of fraudulent goods that could be harmful and provides for safe working conditions. One may argue that without a government, one may feel that they have complete freedom. However, even though complete freedom, may seem attractive, it also allows for many problems as I have mentioned before. Without regulations on goods, there is great risk for goods to not be up to proper standards.. There are many regulations that we as a society do not think about, as we are not affected by them. Additionally, one may argue that without government there is greater room for personal success without taxes. Again, while this may seem appealing, taxes help provide for safe, paved roads, strong bridges, etc. Thus again, these taxes are needed to keep society functional. To conclude, government is necessary, as it provides order to society, sets regulations, and provides protection for the greater good of society.

A stable government clearly creates a more safe environment to live in. Laws established by the government keep people safe from each other and guides good behavior. The government also takes a lot off of our shoulders whether we realize it or not. The government also provides some healthcare and sets better working conditions. Overall the government increases the average lifespan of people.

I agree that a government is necessary, and that it provides order to our society. In a world where crime is regularly committed we would need this kind of order to keep us safe. Along with that, or government provides people with money and job opportunities. I like the point you made with taxes, and how they help improve our roads and bridges. Overall you make some great points, all of which I agree with and support.

Except if the government are the ones actually committing the crimes, as is often found to be the case.

A government is extremely necessary. Start when you are eating breakfast, the food you are eating has no harmful chemicals on it because the government regulates the use of such chemicals. think of your parents car when they give you a ride to school. The government approves mechanics to work on the car so that some random person is not "fixing" your car. Also the government controls the gas prices so that they do not become too expensive. Next the only reason you are getting a proper education is because some of the taxes that the government collects goes to the public education system. Additionally you are safe at school because police, who are government workers, are there to make sure that you are safe. Next basic functions like water sewer and electricity are typically government operated. Without those utilities life would be gross and disease would spread. Doctors are approved by the government.

I believe that having a government is necessary to our society. Our government helps provide and create our laws, along with regulating them and making sure that people are following them. Our government also taxes people, which on one hand may be bad for the people, but this tax allows new government funded things to be built. Some other important things to factor is how our government controls our economy. Like how they distribute money to fund jobs, and how their service provides jobs to people like lawyers, judges, and more. On top of that, our government protects us by controlling our military. The government has many departments in which our lives revolve around. Like the department of education, which allows us to a public education for everyone with the help of taxes. Or the department of Treasury, which monitors and distributes our nations money. Therefor, our government is needed because they control the things we the people cant, they provide the order and law to our society to allow for a safe living space.

I agree that government is necessary to society. I also agree with the fact that taxes are necessary. I would like to add the fact that taxes also regulate the building of roads. This makes driving safer and reduces damage to motor vehicles via potholes and other imperfections in roadways. Another point I agree with is that the government is necessary to regulate the distribution of money. This is important because without the regulation of the distribution of money, there could be a significant rise in inflation at anytime.

I believe that a government is necessary. The reason I believe this is that I think that the pros of having a government out-weigh the cons. One of the positive factors of having is government it the protection provided to the citizens from outside threats. Another pro of having a government would be the fact that having a government enforces laws that protect the people from internal threats, and punish people for acts of robbery, murder, thievery, etc. This would also keep the people of the country happier because of the reduced crime rate. The reduced crime rate would also increase the average lifespan of citizens. Some of the other positives that come with a government include the government regulation of products such as food and water. If there was no regulation of water, our own drinking water could have a high lead content, low pH, or contamination from bacteria. If food were not regulated, fruits and vegetables could contain a harmful amount of pesticides, and other products at the store could be expired, and there would be no way of knowing. In addition to this, there would be no health care system. This would mean that if people were to become ill with a life threatening disease, not only would there would be no way of treating it, there wouldn't even be a way to find out what illness it was. All in all, due to the reasons listed previously, I believe that with a government, a country is in a more advantageous position than if the country did not have a government.

I agree with your augment definitely. The government definitely does provide citizens with basic protection. i also agree that if the government didn't exist the regulation of food and water would be nonexistent and that would be a negative obviously. another point in which i agree with the point that if people had life threatening sicknesses there wouldn't even be any way to figure out what it was, and if there was an outbreak of some sort of illness then there would be no way of warning the people of that illness. i definitely agree that without a government a country wouldn't have and advantages .

I agree with everything you said in your claim. Their aren't to many pros of having no government and something like "paying taxes" seems like a small task when thinking of their being no laws. People would also have to think about the food and water as you said. We have seen E.coli in the new recently do to the disease being spread through lettuce. Given that their would be no regulations you would expect to see that rate go way up without a government. I thought the example you gave showed my ideas about the subject as well.

Government is necessary because it unifies society and provides organization and order. It brings the people together and makes laws to help avoid conflicts to keep people from getting hurt. Living in a society with a government is a lot safer. Although government doesn’t always benefit the individual because it can restrict some of our freedoms it helps the society as a whole stay safe and organized. For example paying taxes makes it harder for the individual person, but it provides money for things like education and healthcare. Without a government anyone could come and take over the territory because there is no military stopping them. It would be free for anyone to take over. A government also brings order to society. For example, during a natural disaster the government organizes resources and other things to help the people who were affected by the disaster. Although this could be done by private organizations as well it wouldn’t work as efficiently as a government. Overall, government is necessary because it helps to protect the people and keep them safe.

Yes government is necessary because it is what keeps us all together as one common culture, our country was made up completely by immigrants which we all descend from but that doesn't stop us from together as one single race. We all live under the same roof we all have different personal views which include politics and religion, that have probably been taught upon us by our parents which is passed down by generations. But that does not give the right to somebody to judge someone else or hurt them just because their beliefs are different that is why we have a government it influences our minds because we know that if we do something bad in our society country there will be consequences. This really is a motivating factor of why its so beneficial to have a strong and powerful government because now people are less attracted to do crime, but take for instance you don't have a strong government your people will easily get away with crimes which would be disappointing because people will be people without order no matter what type of people live in that society it is human nature to be ambitious some may exceed the limits and control others for his/her on benefit. This is why we have a government to avoid tyrannies because we as a democracy have the right to vote for representatives so our petitions are heard. We may take this for granted today in our society because we are just used to the thought of being represented by others in our society we cannot do anything illegal or incorrect which if someone does that to us we can sue that person and not resort to our own measures. Without these laws we would be animals free to do what we want but we have created norms in society which I believe will not go away we have advanced so much in society from where we began to where we are now we have advanced a lot! Yes in many ways this country is not perfect but we cannot just give up on it because if we work together and follow the rules we will live the typical life of this country and yes enjoy it with others.

Government is necessary because our country couldn’t handle not having one. if we didn’t have a government, there would be no laws, therefore there would be a lot more crimes, as nothing is illegal. A government also creates order for the people, if there is no order, we wouldn’t know how to “live”. Another thing we wouldn’t have is businesses, i think if there is no government, there are no taxes. So small businesses simply wouldn’t work.

I agree that government is necessary. You made a good point when you said that without it there would be more crime. However, I do not agree that without government there wouldn’t be businesses. Our government does not take much partIn business. Although there are some regulations we still have a lot of freedom. Without government businesses would be harder but not impossible.

I would prefer to live under a government rather then living without a government. one reason for this would be that the government provides us with basic services which help us on a daily biases. these services include the national weather service and the environmental protection agency. this agency, and many others help us live our daily lives and without them are lives would be completely different. we would have no power, no clean water, and are roads would be covered in potholes and made of dirt. another reason for living under government is that if we had no government, someone would most likely rise up from the masses and would probley form something that resembles a government. an example of this would be the soviet union. another reason for government is that it provides structure for our society. if someone breaks into my house and steals stuff from me, then i know that they will be punished for there actions by the government. for those reasons i believe that the government should exist and is necessary for life.

Government is very necessary to have a state that is thriving and stable. The first purpose of the government was to protect us, or the people. They protect us not just from other states but also from other people by enforcing laws that we all must abide by. Without these laws our safety would not be insured and also anarchy could also ensue. Many may think the idea of complete freedom is intriguing but trust me it is not. Imagine waking up and thinking about all the things that could threaten you. If you drove nobody would be wearing a seatbelt or even looking at the road and their would be a high risk of a crash. At any point someone could come into your house and steel everything you own and there would be no repercussions. Anarchy would surely ensue if not for laws being in place. The government also regulates the cleanliness of many foods and also controls things like road work and disposal of trash. Without government you would have a build up of trash with nobody to take it away. You also wouldn't be sure if anything you eat is safe because the government is no longer their to make sure it's ok. Without government nothing would seem to work in society and many things would fall apart. If we as citizens lost that agreement we would be lost.

This is one of my disputes from the Room 122 argument

Your argument that living with the complication of taxes may seem appealing, however, without taxes there would be no way for some fundamentals of our society to be paid for. Specifically, the taxes are put towards infrastructure improvements (bridges and roadways) and government programs (such as education, housing and healthcare). Additionally, you mention that society would become more community oriented. Again, this seems like an appealing trait, but if our country was more community oriented, our country would become much more susceptible to being invaded by other societies because it is not unified in any way and each locality would want to promote its own interests above neighboring communities. Lastly, although we could rely on others skills, it is important for government to regulate certain trades and industries so that working conditions are safe and no one can take advantage of anyone else.
