In all actuality one doesn't decide what to do, the situation decides this. Expect to get hit if you scare me, I am wired for a fight. Over the years I have had several people attempt to scare me, I swing. Have busted several lips and blackened eyes. This is an automatic response. It maybe the wiser choice to run, but I'm not programmed that way. Side: FIGHT!

It depends on the circumstances surrounding the situation. If I flee, is it going to come back and bite me in the ass some day, or is it simply a one-time only situation? If the former, then FIGHT, but probably not in the latter. Again, it all depends on context. Side: FIGHT!

Well, I believe that you will respond however you are programmed. I was held up at gunpoint one Thanksgiving about 15 years ago. I was able to talk the guys out of leaving everything (including two guns they found) except for about $37 I had in my wallet. When the police came and took my statement they told me that 999 times out of 1000 I would have been dead. Hmmm...I guess you neven know. Andy Side: FIGHT!

I agree that one responds according to programming, however I believe that each situation one can act very differently. Such as you being held up. I doubt that you would respond to three different hold-ups the same, because the variables in these wouldn't be the same. Examples of variables that would alter the out-come; if children were present, distance between means of escape, if you had no escape, number of robbers, etc. An animal will run if it can, cornered it will fight. This is pretty much true for most animals. Since man is an animal, one can expect similar results. Side: FIGHT!

A person should walk away. I don't believe in violence but i don't believe a person should stop fighting. If you feel strongly about something, fight for it. There are some exceptions because some of these beliefs can bad such as premeditated murder. Now Mohandas Ghandi is a perfect example to what im saying. He fought for India's Independance without violence. And that is what i want to see people to do today and tomorrow. You can fight while not hurting anybody. I do believe in self defense tho. Im a person who don't like when people hit on anybody. But if somebody is holding a gun to my face, i will fight back till that gun is in my hands. There is a limit to self defense tho. Don't continue to beat the person until he/she is no harm to you or to anybody. I won't kick a person while he is down on the ground. You use physical harm until there is no physical threat to you TEMPORARILY. When a person is down, leave him or her be. I guess the reason why i suggest this because i don't like violence. I believe it is rare to use violence in self defense. If a person is trying to punch me, i will dodge, block and either stay away from that person or try to grab him/her to stop him/her. I will not try to punch back because i don't think that is when to use violence. The gun situation is the one of the few situations i can think of to use actual physical violence. Also, if a person is beating you senslessly, that is also another reason to give a punch or to. I would like to think that it takes a man to not use physical harm. I will follow that path of thinking even tho i really don't feel it because man are programmed to use violence. Or that it seems like it....? Side: FIGHT!

Fight doesn't exactly mean fighting in a physical way, in this case it can be also: 1. To face with problem/situation and try to find applicable solution, not to leave it as it is, hopping that it will soon pass and clear up of its own accord. May be it will happen for some period of time, but then the problem can come back. Furthermore, this time it can bite you even stronger until you cope with it. It’s better to decide what can be done, than to leave problem as it is. Why do we usually prefer to flee in is this case a) Because we don't know how to deal with a problem b) Because we at least don't want to try and do it Meeting challenges is also an example of fight. It’s not easy, but then you will learn more about how to deal with different situations in your life, about yourself and the world around you. Fight is harder than flight, but it will make you stronger. 2. Not to keep silence, when you think there is something to say or to do. Sometimes we prefer to flight, because we don't want to harm someone's feelings, destroy relations or when you're afraid of the negative reaction of others. But I think it’s better to do and regret, than to do nothing at all. You regret about undone things more than about things you’ve done, because in the second case at least you can change something in a better way. “Life is like a bear, you either eat the bear or the bear eats you” © Don’t think that life itself is exactly like a bear, but at times situations we may feel that way. So don’t allow yourself to be eaten. We must choose fights, which are worth fighting, not only fights we can win. Side: FIGHT!

We also gotta remember, the flight or fight response can be triggered in more situations other than just direct physical harm. And I find the appropriate response based off circumstances. There is no single correct answer for all situations. For me, I'll admit that I don't like getting in a sticky situation on most cases, so my response would be flight. But sometimes when the risks are acceptable enough to me, I'll land a punch, explode with sharp words(though trying to stay logical as possible), or just have a generally aggressive response.
