Scientists conclude parachutes no more effective than empty backpacks

In a study published in the British Medical Journal that can be read here (https://www.bmj.com/content/363/bmj.k5094) 23 people took part in a randomized control trial and each jumped from an airplane wearing either a parachute or an empty backpack. Participants were screened for death or traumatic injury twice after impact, at +5 minutes and +30 days. According to the results: "There was no significant difference in the rate of death or major traumatic injury between the treatment and control arms within five minutes of ground impact (0% for parachute v 0% for control; P>0.9) or at 30 days after impact (0% for parachute v 0% for control; P>0.9).

I wonder what would happen if they did the same experiment jumping from a 100 story high building. Also probably should use a larger sample size, say 8 billion.

Technically they would still be jumping from a 100 story building if they jumped out of the first floor window. It's important we specify that they jump from the top of said building, the ground.

Let the inevitable jokes begin of how this requires further testing and independent verification according to the scientific method by throwing certain members of this website from airplanes wearing empty backpacks.
