Scotland

I made this a while ago, but I'm doing it again because a lot has change since last time. So same question, should Scotland become its own country and break up the United Kingdom? I'm really torn on this issue, since I am of a long and old root of Scottish ancestry.

Scotland is already its own country but I don't think it would gain anything from being a sovereign state separate to the United Kingdom, it would lose any grants or monetary support it receives from Westminster and would still have to keep a lot of agreements already in place as its biggest trade partner is England, it would have very little power on the international stage due to its size and national debt. Scotland is better off as it is, as it basically is running itself since devolution but being part of the United Kingdom it also can make bigger gains internationally, receives monetary support from Westminster and in terms of defence also has the support of the British army

Why? Pride? Pride is one of the 7 deadly sins. But if you could come up with some other reason..., I'm willing to listen ;)

If Scotland split from the UK, both the UK and Scotland would suffer because of less regional influence.

I dont think it would make much difference to the UK yes it would be slightly smaller but would have less national debt so would still wield a proportianate amount of power in the world, although Scotland would be a tiny Sovereign state with a large national debt in compsrision to the UK so its international power would be greatly diminished Scotland has nothing to gain by going it alone
