Self Harm.

If a person Knowingly and with the utmost joy causes themselves harm, should steps be taken to reduce that harm by their loved ones?
**
this is, of course a vague example, but with the criteria provided, I feel as though the only correct answer is yes. Self harm is a horrible thing. especially when a person does so without a second thought. this is why Cigarettes, and in some cases alcohol are seen as terrible things. a person is slowly poisoning themselves, and when someone cares they tend to speak up.
**
The following is either perfect segue or non sequiter. and I can't even tell anymore.
**
why does it seem like then, that no one looks twice at the effects of the transgender lifestyle choices? not only are they slowly poisoning themselves with cross sex hormones, which not only boost suicide rates but also add in blood clots and cancer for good measure, (Which isn't too different than alcoholism or cigarettes) but on top of that they get surgeries for conditions that aren't life threatening.
**
As an aside in some cases they even reject the reality that they once were the opposite gender, ignoring crucial check ups, like mammograms and prostate checks.
------Disclaimer/Closing thoughts------
I mean, are we sure this isn't the kind of thing that should be considered mental disorder? and that's not a derogatory thing. when will people understand that mental disorders happen to literally everyone? The Goal here is to understand the problem and help the people that need help. and let's face it, Self harm isn't the behavior of someone who doesn't need help.

Actually I do disagree with the original premise that it's society's obligation to interfere with people intending or attempting self harm. In free societies with civil rights I think the adult individual should be fully empowered to choose the fate of their lives, including suicide, euthanasia, risky behaviors like substance abuse, etc.

Note I said adult individual. Children are an exception until they reach legal age.

Furthermore, your intepretation that GBLT lifestyle is self harm is fully subjective. Atheists could just as easily assert that framing your life around orders from a nonexistent god is also self harm. Vegans could claim the same about omnivorous people. Athletes could claim the same about anyone less fit than they are themselves.

of course. I can mostly agree with what you're saying. sodas are self harm too. but I would argue there's a difference in that there is help systems to Stop abusing drugs, there is help to start dieting and exercise, and there is help systems to stop smoking, as well as the fact that all of these behaviors are Recommended against by doctors, (And hopefully family)as well as the government who launches campaigns to "educate" people on the effects of their actions.

-

my deeper point though, was that I'm Appalled that doctors can allow cross sex hormone therapy to happen, and don't argue that the person isn't in sound mind. let alone because of the way the DSM-V's entry on trans sexualism is written they're encouraged to enforce the delusions of these people. don't get me wrong. a human can live a full and happy life with delusion. I find my life full of such delusions.

-

I thought, at the same time, about self flagellation. As well as other self punishments.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/in-love-and-war/201204/no-pain-no-gain-why-we-punish-ourselves

this is what Psychology today had to say about the issue of self harm. most notably the concluding sentence

"Chronic self-punishment is characteristic of a number of mental illnesses, such as borderline personality disorder, depression, and eating disorders... consider other ways of coping that can give you the same benefits without causing further pain."

-

I see no difference here.

"I am imperfect the way that I am. I must change" Beats the crap out of self

"I am imperfect the way that I am. I must change" gets chest carved out and poisons self to death slowly

-

To say that they have the freedom to do what they do is a giant "no shit" moment. but to have the choice affirmed by the medical community when it CLEARLY isn't healthy, is (at least to me) an Abomination.

-

I have the freedom to drink a flask of arsenic. most doctors would advise against it.

I have a freedom to change my gender because I feel like it. and poison myself with medicines, and doctors give the big fat thumbs up.

I know this is an old post but I'd just like you to clarify something. If what the individual does affects another person negatively, should it still be allowed? the reality is that people who drink alcohol have impaired judgment and become childlike. They can not make good decisions and may endanger the lives of others. Also, secondhand smoke is a REAL problem.

Just as a side-note, I am a personally conservative liberal man. I like freedom, but I choose not to partake in the more extreme freedoms I have, including owning weapons, doing drugs, etc.

The rights of one individual stop when they run into the face of someone else. In the case of alcohol you should be able to drink but if you're foolish enough to drive drunk then you should be busted for it.

You are talking common sense. STOP THAT! Don't you know we live in a political correct nation where that kind of thinking is BAD?

Any strange weird sexual orientaton or disorder is off limits to any notions of abnormalcy or of being unnatural. If you do not revel in this sort of diversity, you are a homophobe, a transgenderphobe or simply stupid.

As the one PC person on this argument mentioned, some people on the Left deem having a faith in God being self harm.

This is where we have come to in this sick twisted culture. Normal and abnormal have been all twisted around. Moral values are a dirty word to those on the Left. Living promiscuous lives, abandoning your children, etc. are all acceptable behaviors never condemned in this PC culture. But don't you dare say anything against the LGBT community. THEY ARE SACRED TO THOSE ON THE LEFT.

well... I mean... if facts are hateful then I'd rather be a hatemonger than a benign idiot.

I almost kind of agree with what you said (a week ago lol I'm a bit late), but I would like to ask for clarification. How does "the left" support Living promiscuous lives, abandoning your children, etc.?
