Should Adults Have the Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun?

"Carrying a concealed handgun in public is permitted in all 50 states as of 2013, when Illinois became the last state to enact concealed carry legislation. Some states require gun owners to obtain permits while others have "unrestricted carry" and do not require permits.

Proponents of concealed carry say that criminals are less likely to attack someone they believe to be armed. They cite the 2nd Amendment's "right of the people to keep and bear arms," and argue that most adults who legally carry a concealed gun are law-abiding and do not misuse their firearms.

Opponents of concealed carry argue that increased gun ownership leads to more gun crime and unintended gun injuries. They contend that concealed handguns increase the chances of arguments becoming lethal, and that society would be safer with fewer guns on the street, not more."  -ProCon.org

I have Class A firearm permit in a state where it is hard to get.

Yes, the right should exist. The adults should have to pass a gun safety class, and pass a background test. They should have to comply with regional laws such as if some types of handguns are not allowed for concealed carry, and if there are zones which are exceptions like courtrooms. And if they are not taking this responsibility seriously they should lose the right.

Note, with all that said, there is no yes to EVERYONE automatically gets to, or that zero laws should apply to it. Quite the opposite in fact.

Absolutely. When you choose to lay down arms, you choose to leave yourself at the mercy of others.

All you have to do is look at the deadliest shootings in American history. Nearly all of them have occurred in places where you would not be allowed to carry a gun. Nearly all of them could have been cut short, resulting in saved lives, if someone present had been able to return fire with a concealed handgun. And while there have been plenty of shootings off of supposed "gun free zones", rarely if ever are they able to produce a body count that makes the evening news.

My criteria on whether or not you need a gun is based on whether you are a nonviolent human being with a pulse. If you are, get a gun, learn to use it, and hope you never have to.

The ability to effectively protect one self from threats is a human right. Furthermore, concealing the weapon allows a strategic advantage defensively. There are endless situations where a handgun is an invaluable asset and not one scenario it would be a detriment. First and foremost firearms are imperative to a overthrow of corrupted governments. Warning or killing predators--humanely hunting game--as a signal if lost--quickly and painlessly end the suffering of life.

Hello x:

Nahhh... It's about time we took the guns away.. There WAS a time in this country, when we used guns the way they were supposed to be used.. We settle the west with the gun and we shot bad guys at the OK corral. As a nation, in general we WERE responsible.

Then somebody RUINED it for the rest of us.. It started with the Texas tower shooting, and hasn't stopped yet.. I guess we're HOPING it'll clear up by itself.. But, if leaving it to our own devices WORKED, mass shooting would have STOPPED, and they haven't.

So, it's time for another approach.. When I was a kid, the governing body (my mother), let me have a BB gun. She said as long as I was responsible with it, I could keep it.. That worked for a while, but when I started shooting out windows, she took it away from me..

No , why do Americans need to carry guns is their society so fucked up that one needs to carry a gun ?

If their society is no more violent than others what do you need a gun for ?

It's totally rational to say no guns no gun deaths of course gun nuts turn this on it's head by spewing nonsense which is not worthy of commentary; the latest nonsense regarding guns was posted to me yesterday as in " we see guns as tools in the same way you see a hammer ; do you want to ban hammers " ?

This is the sort of irrational nonsense gun nuts resort to, to justify their love affair with the gun

Americans also justify carrying guns as in it stops the threat of a hostile government holding power over the people another ridiculous assertion to say the least
