Should Air Traffic be better controlled in and around N.Y.C.?

After this tragic week-end in which an air collision over the Hudson River left 9 dead from a small plane colliding with a helicopter in mid-air, should the rules be changed for air traffic in that area and make it all off limits to any type of air travel for sightseeing purposes?  Or should monitoring between the towers and aircraft be a must so that these things have a slighter chance of happening again?

NYC should put a ban or all aircraft flying up and down the Hudson River for sightseeing puposes until they can come up with a plan which better protects the pilots and their passengers against collision. It's a small corridor and any number of aircraft could be flying around there just by eye-balling the other traffic to ensure safety. To me, that's a collision just waiting to happen and much too dangerous to ever happen again.

Seeing how there are tons of crashes and low flying planes that scare the shit out of people I'd say that it would be a good idea.

Although I've lived in New York for all sixteen years of my life and I've never noticed anything like this in the air (but, then, you wouldn't), I completely agree that the aircrafts and towers need to communicate better.

That's communist marxism. Let the free market decide who's in the air when ;)

Well then hooray for communist marxism 'cause I'm all for air traffic safety controls.

Is it really a good idea to make an area off limits whenever an accident occurs?

Side: No

Accidents are apart of the human experience. Controlling accidents will always be a struggle and the move to make it lawful or unlawful seems unwise. A better solution is available.

Do you have any ideas how to make this situation better? No commercial aircraft are allowed to fly in that space and I can see why. Look at the hoopla surrounding the president's plane as it took a bit of a joyride over Manhattan. These sightseeing planes have no guidance at all from neighboring towers. As a pilot points out sights on the city skyline he's not always watching what he's doing either.
