Should Christianity be denominationalized? (i.e Catholic, Protestant)

why is christianity seperated into so many different parts? why can't we all just get along?

THIS IS NOT A DEBATE ABOUT EVOLUTION VS. CHRITIANITY< SO DONT START ARGUING ABOUT THAT!

the main thing is christianity is that

1. you have to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior

2. You have to have faith in God that he is real and created us.

all these sects have this in common, so i do not believe that we really need all these traditions or other rules. i used to be catholic, but once i realised this, i figured "why do all this extra stuff? I'm already going to heaven, so why separate myself from other christians?" so now i am nondenominational. i just don't see the purpose in separation within the church or all these little rules.

There are other things. Like Catholics have 7 sacraments while other sects can have as little as 2 (Baptism and Eucharist). And it matters a little bit about "the extra stuff". You can't possibly agrue that a mad man can go out and kill innocent people all his life, but accept Jesus and go to Heaven. That'd be absurd. But I get your point that if you live a moral life and believe in the core teachings, then you'll go to Heaven. :)

I am picking on you!

Why? I don't know.

Tell me how any person can accept Jesus as lord and savior when our nature is dead in sin and trespasses? And as such, we are dead to the righteousness of God. Do we not have to be born again in order to recognize we are dead in sin?

If you can answer my questions, you then must explain why we are saved by our choice to resurrect ourselves, versus being resurrected by the salvation of God, and that by grace. Is god our debtor?

I'll be cordial if you choose to debate this matter.

1. GOD FORGAVE US OF OUR SINS AND SENT JESUS TO PAY FOR THEM!

2. READ THE DEBATE TITLE! this is not about why we have faith. no more posts like this. the next one gets banned. if you wanted to debate on that, make your own! i have the Ban Hammer!

If you are going to "do church" like it is done, then the answer is YES. The institution, like a business, has to rally around its goals. But, if you are going to do it like the New Testament teaches, then no denominations are necessary. It's a house to house, person to person faith.

Side: Yes, absolutely

If Christianity was not denominationalized, then that would be one less thing we would have to argue about. ;)

Then we'd just be arguing over where or not we should un-denominationalize Christianity, when everyone starts arguing over which specific policies a denominationalized church should support.

Side: no, we shouldn't

You must really like to argue, huh? I guess that's why we all joined the site ;)

It would be a wonderful and pragmatic concept to have just one Christian Church.

The church separated starting in the 1500's with Martin Luther's 95 Theses. Since then, there have been several other protestant movements that have become mainstream. I'd love for all Christians to band together, but at the same time I think it'd be a bad idea. I'm a Catholic, but I've often thought of practicing a form of Protestantism. This is because each sect has its own practices. They all believe the same core teachings, but they practice it differently. I really like how one person can practice one way and still believe the same things as somebody else from another sect.

well, i've left all of that belief and stuff, but if i were to argue from their point of view:

To put everyone under one belief system would just open up attacks on Christianity. The fact that there are so many sects that interpret it differently shows how Christianity has allowed the people to worship God and Christ in their own way.

some are strict about it, others are more laid back.

If everyone was under one church, they would feel more compelled to follow that one guideline, which could end their faith right there. Either that, or lead to the inevitable branch off. so, if one church were created, it would eventually break off into other beliefs again.

and if you're thinking of a Unitarian church, keep in mind that many people will not believe in that way and will still break off into different sects.

Sure if your only plan in doing so is to create more decent within the population of Christianity, denominationalized religion is just a perversion of what Religious Faith is Truly about, but all denominationalized religions were began to control the masses at a time when the world was pretty much well divided into many many separate Regions / Nations, and each denomination was tailored to the specific needs of that Region of the planet, and the goals for the future of those who were the Religious leaders at the time and their Rulers of those specific regions and they used each Regional Faith and the False Belief that all other Faiths were just evil and doing nothing but the works of the Satan to help to Stabilize those Regions and by giving everyone in that Region a Common enemy then the people living there would have had no need or desire to Fight and Argue with their Neighbors Each Region was brought together against a common enemy to try and put an end to the regions Individual problems with their Neighboring cities and states and giving them all a common foe That Foe Being EVIL, but in this day and age the world is all connected and we must grow up as a Race and accept we are just 1 people Period and accept the only Evil on the planet is in the individual actions of individuals wanting and lusting to destroy the Infidels of the World is an idea that should have ended with the 1800's or 900's at the latest, and seeing the world acting like it does our governments globally are doing all they can do to try and keep the peace, which sadly they all have began trying to get us all to believe we have an invasion beginning from outside our planet and they are being as tricky about it as the 1st Catholics and 1st Islamic's were by denying knowledge of the Alien threat they are trying to get us all to stand as one people against, I know if today was the day Muhammad, Christ, Buddha or any Profit from the past who after their death we the human race Deified was to return they would be brought to tears knowing all the Lives we Human Race have Destroyed always Claiming we were doing it in their names, it is beyond saddening to see after as many Eons as humanity has existed on Mother Earth we have only Matured to be equivalent to the Spiritual Maturity of Chimpanzees, who war and battle with all the other Troops of Chimps who just happen to cross an imaginary line in the minds of the Alpha of the Group, so we are no more mature spiritually and emotionally than our way way less evolved cousins, I can say and try to feel in my soul that I forgive us all for acting like petulant children but I don't know if I am just Lying to you and myself, I can hope I'm not, but I can't be any more sure of that than you can be sure that you would be able to accept that the world trade center disaster was just the act of a few insane individuals and not an action taken by all of the Islamic Faith, grow up people almost all religions are Abrahamic religions, and the ones that aren't are based on the same guiding principles for all of Humanity to treat all other Humans with respect and dignity, any Bullshit that Considers a Faith from the Region or Nation 100 or 1000 miles away as Evil was for an Era when Leaders needed any way they could find to bring their people together back then the common enemy method was expedient and worked but Humans as a Race of Sentient Beings should have long ago Grown Beyond these petty reasons to treat our Neighbors with Compassion and Respect.

We use the term “church” to associate our observations with our understanding of the supposed labors of Christ. All of which is predicated upon a perverted understanding of the Bible. What makes anyone think that the churches are the fruits of the labors of Christ? Is the body of Christ, the church, divisible? By how many denominations can His house be divided? I’ll say this: the churches, all denominational and non-denominational, bare witness against themselves that they are not the members of the body of Christ. Upon what authority can I assert that proposition? The authority of sound reason rightly applied to the words of the scriptures.

The churches and the denominations are not the fruit of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is not their Lord. To accuse Jesus Christ of being the Lord of such things is to accuse and associate Jesus Christ with every criminal act exacted in the name of Jesus Christ for the sake of His church by the supposed churches.

All churches are associated by the same corrupt understanding of the Bible. We can affirm they are brothers in spirit and serve the same god, albeit not the god who they claim to be serving. We are observing the existence of an ecumenical church, a church of red-heads, blonds, and brunets.

Therefore, does it matter if the churches disagree in detail but not in whole?

Am I a Christian? Not in any sense of which ignorance can be a witness.

Has any man heard a voice from heaven saying, "This is my beloved church; go ye, and be thou a member."?

No, therefore they, churches, bare witness of themselves and their testimony is of themselves for themselves.

Some people like their church telling them what to think in all possible scenerios. If Christianity was denominationalized, how would people be told what to think about evolution or abortion? Clearly, different churches have differing opinions that couldn't be reconcilled into a single denominational church. The current Angelican church is even in the process of splitting over conflicting opinions on gay marriage.
