Should CreateDebate arguments in favor and against should be color coded?

I feel the opposite is true. I feel a lack of hierarchy adds complication to the layout. It's pretty functional don't get me wrong. Freaking cool site, but I mean you have all this opportunity to explore hierarchy and color (Brand = two colors, blue/orange, Arguments has 2 choices...). They even dabbled in it a little with the "add argument" buttons above. The grid structure of the layout seems mildly confusing as well. For instance, the vertical alignments of Usernames with their respective Arguments could match up more uniquely to aid in clarity. Or if the leading (space between lines of text) wasn't so consistent, each "Argument" might be better framed visually, without the addition of graphics or color. Obviously, this is not gospel or some fantastic soultion, I just think lack of color COULD BE one of a few ideas on improving clarity and functionality of the site. Side: What nonsense is this?
This might be a good idea, in fact, we have played around with that quite a bit but we've found that it makes the page look too chaotic. Do you have a specific idea in mind? The color of the frame around the argument? Or the color of the text? What are you thinking? Side: Geeze Louise! That's right!!!
The framing is a good idea, I hadn't thought about that... When I initially thought about it, even in my imagination, with the Red vs Blue, and the Favor and Opposes on either side, it seemed like too much. Also, the guy above me is right about the dual colomns. It would be a little easier for a newbie to get if there was an off white color on 1/2 of the page to signify a division I don't know though, I would have to toy with it. Ok, here's a super quick idea... mind you it's NOT how I think looks best, but to get an idea of color coding. Look: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2126/ The Agree buttons and the disagree are clickable. No more tinny Q like icon that says argue for or against... It's a gradient color code, but when someone disagrees on an opposing side, the color passes over to show that they are part of the other argument... this way, everything on one side it coded red, and everyone on another is blue. Now, if this happens on both sides at the same time, it would look a little screwy, the colors would be inverted and that might get confusing. Also, I just put layers over the screenshot, so the arguments would be much easier to see if the color were behind the arguments... Imagine that part yourself. Side: What nonsense is this?
I was thinking a light background color might help, but the simple framing color is a good idea too. I agree that it might make it too chaotic. To tell you the truth, the two column format takes a bit to get used to as well. Perhaps a "highlight positions" option in each user's preferences might be the way to go at first. Yes I thought of that first, but then again, who's to measure the power of colour against the power of ideas? If you feel strongly about something enough to voice out your opinion chances are that colour isn't going to mean squat to you. In the other hand, if you are so easily swayed by the subliminality of colour then your credibility and the weight of your opinion should be severely questioned. "Well, you gotta have an opinion! I mean, do you think that God came down from heaven and stopped the –" BANG Vincent Vega - Pulp Fiction (1994) Side: What nonsense is this?

Oh it's a good idea guys, a REAL good idea. Not. What about integrity? What about ideals? What about vision? What about staying faithful to the very things we hold to be true and dear? A colour scheme would directy impose not only on this site, but also it's inegrity. A change of mind is, as they say, as bad as kicking a baby. So stay true to your ideals. Don't be swayed by those fighting for functionality. Stay true createdebate.com (beta). Stay mostly white. Side: What nonsense is this?
