Should English be the official language of the United States?

Considering that an extremely high percentage of people in the US are English speaking, I would say that English should be the official language of the United States.

I like more how Hillary Clinton put it. English should be our National Language, but as an official language we should leave room for diversity. Obviously we need to make sure that government wise we keep English as our primary language. But, we need to accept that immigrants come and we need people to translate that shit.

It's our National Language, and we can't let other languages interfere with that. But, we need to know that there is plenty of room for diversity.

I wish it would be but there seems to be too much opposition for some reason.

I cannot see a reason why the United States should adopt an official language. My major argument would be that the adopting of English as the official language would most likely violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The act has prevented the twenty-something states that have English as their official language from printing material only in English. If adopting English means that individuals who do not understand English have to go through significant hurdles to understand government documents and their rights, then establishing English as an official language would be absurd.
